Why do we use negatives in the EFT setup statement?

Hi Everyone,

New EFT'ers are sometimes confused about why we tend to focus on the negative with EFT. AnaMaria Herrera gives her views on this.

One of the common questions and concerns we have about EFT is about focusing on the negative when we create setup phrases.  People have a fear that they will be reinforcing this negative feeling or quality in themselves.

I wanted to share an analogy in hopes that it will also help you if someone asks you this question: “Why in heaven’s name would we want to say (and feel for that matter!) the NEGATIVE?”

To answer that, I want you to imagine you have severe tooth pain and you go to your dentist.  He or she will ask you, “Tell me about the pain.  What do you feel and where is it?”  What if you just smiled and said, “‘No doctor, I really don’t want to talk about the negative, and I don’t want to show you where my tooth pain is.  Let’s just talk about fluffy white clouds and happy kittens today to make me feel better.”  Wouldn’t that be silly?

To clear up the pain the dentist has to know the specifics about the tooth problem, which have to come from you sharing about the pain.

This is the same with EFT.  EFT works on the negative, by first identifying it, then stating it so it can be removed.  During an EFT treatment, serotonin, (a neurotransmitter) is released in our brain which soothes us and neutralizes fear and anxiety.  The result is that emotional issues and present resistance are cleared so then you can feel genuinely positive and permanently empowered with that issue or experience.

The fact of the matter is that the negative is there whether you speak it aloud or not.  You are either: 1. Thinking about it consciously, ‘I really don’t want to make these calls,’ or, 2. It is on a deeper, subconscious level, ‘I wonder why I am so nervous about making these calls?’

It is just a choice of whether you want to live with it or not.  Why live with unnecessary discomfort when we don’t have to?  EFT is a wonderful, elegant, efficient tool, and unlike a root canal, no anesthesia is necessary!  So I invite you to risk stating the negative, and use EFT to erase the negative and replace it with more empowering beliefs so you can live a more positive, powerful life.
