Conversations with Dr. Mercola -- Part 6 of 7

Alert: This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods.

This 6th installment visits the seemingly impossible (in medical terms) cessation of lactose intolerance by the use of EFT. Dr. Mercola and I discuss this case and its implications for the medical model.

Hugs, Gary

Dr. Mercola,

I would value your opinion regarding one of the many mysteries I have found with EFT.

But first, some background. On many occasions I have seen startling physical healings occur with EFT that appear to dramatically violate the medical model. For example, I have seen....

1. Back pain subside even though there is clear and obvious physical damage to the back. The clients who benefit from this healing are still aware of their physical weakness, however, so they don't do anything to cause further damage.

2. Migraine headaches go away permanently without the use of medications.

3. Asthma symptoms vanish without the use of medications.

4. And many, many more.

For many of these healings I can attempt explanation by attributing emotional causes to the ailment. But one of them is so out of the ordinary that I must ask for your thoughts. I speak here of an EFT case that resulted in the complete cessation of lactose intolerance with nothing but a few rounds of tapping.

The medical model would tell us that a cure for this problem is somewhere between unlikely and impossible because the patient has lost the enzymes necessary to digest milk products. Thus ingesting cheese, milk, ice cream and the like causes lactose intolerant people to have severe gastrointestinal distress, sometimes for days. So, if medical tests find an absence of the appropriate enzymes, then how can EFT allow the patient such dietary freedom? Here are some further thoughts on this taken from the above mentioned case write-up on our web site....

".......Think about it. If the true cause of lactose intolerance is a lack of digestive enzymes, then did Shirley suddenly produce the enzymes she had been missing for years? What are the odds of that happening and if it did happen....then, how? Did EFT build enzymes for her? Did it reduce some latent emotional issues that were suppressing the enzymes? Is lactose intolerance really a digestive problem or might it be a physical manifestation of an unresolved emotional issue?

Perhaps this whole thing was just a coincidence and thus Shirley simply had a "spontaneous remission" that just happened to coincide with the application of EFT (some people might suggest this possibility, by the way). Maybe the "milk gremlins" went on strike leaving Shirley with normal digestion for awhile. Maybe we have better cows now........"

Perhaps the medical model needs revision. Perhaps we have such a dramatically improved healing paradigm here that the entire medical profession needs to be alerted. Perhaps EFT and nutrition should be considered by any physician before using drugs or surgery. Who knows for sure. As a physician, what is your opinion on both the lactose intolerance example and the possible revision of the medical model?

Best, Gary

Dear Gary,

Thanks for your thought provoking question regarding the mysteries of EFT. I can provide my guesses as to what might be happening here, but I want to emphasize that they are speculations.

First a little background on how our bodies work.

Babies are born with the ability to digest lactose -- it is found in breast milk -- but they lose this ability after weaning. Lactose intolerance affects about 5 percent of Northern Europeans and close 100 percent of Southeast Asians. If they eat milk, cheese or other dairy products they develop nausea, cramps, bloating, gas and diarrhea. Between 30 million and 50 million North Americans are lactose intolerant -- 75 percent of African-Americans and 90 percent of Asian-Americans. So this is a significant issue for many people.

My eating plan advises most people to avoid milk for many other reasons unrelated to lactose intolerance (www.mercola.com/article/Diet/milk/ ), so it is not a major concern for most of the patients that I see.

Lactose intolerance was previously thought to be genetic disease, caused by a recessive gene, meaning that a person has to inherit a "faulty'' DNA copy from each parent to be lactose intolerant. Earlier this year a team of Finnish and US researchers determined that lactose intolerance is also due to a mutation, an actual change in the DNA. In cold climates where winter crops cannot be reaped, a gene mutation allowing adults to digest milk would help people survive better. People who survived would pass on those genes to their offspring.

I suspect you may have stumbled on yet another mechanism in the lactose intolerance story. That is, bioenergetic stimulation resulting in either complete or partial expression of the lactase enzyme. Please understand however that this is just my hypothesis.

Enzyme production, regulation or expression is regulated through our DNA. As you know, last year scientists uncovered the human genome and we are just beginning to unravel the many mysteries of genetics. However, DNA is not very intelligent. It is more like a dumb file system. The expression of certain DNA segments which might produce enzymes is regularly modified by one's external environment. This is one of the ways that diet and stress can influence genetic diseases.

My guess is that there is likely some physiological system that serves as a switch for this regulation. Effective EFT interventions, like the one you provided, are likely to turn on the appropriate DNA. It would be quite interesting to actually measure the amount of lactase that this woman is producing as it would certainly warrant a case history report in one of the journals.

I never cease to be amazed at the potential of EFT. You have helped to spread a technology whose potential on improving health we are only beginning to understand. I am glad to be, as you are so found of saying, on the ground floor of the Healing High Rise, in this exciting field.
