I thought I would include a word about one of my recent cases. A woman came to me for help with a fear of riding as a passenger in a car. She explained that she did not really have a problem with driving, only riding. As we talked, she recounted a recent experience of riding with her husband on an interstate hwy. A large truck passed them and she got so anxious, she ripped the upper grab handle off her new Cadillac. No, the handle was not defective and this woman is about 5'-4". This was the level of her anxiety when riding. I asked her to rate her SUDS level on the scale of 1-10, she laughed and wanted to know if the scale only went to 10.

Well, three or four rounds later she stated that her SUDS level was down to 1. Like you, I love to check my work and even after I had her increase all of the submodalities of that truck experience, and she still reported a 1, I wasn't satisfied. Since this was my last client for the day, I decided to put her to the ultimate test. I put her in my jeep and took her for a ride.

Up and down the hwy. we went. The road I chose winds along a bayou with little or no shoulder. I gave her some time to experience riding as a passenger on this road, and when I asked her to rate her SUDS level, she laughed and said this is amazing! We got into some traffic, brake lights had been a trigger for anxiety, and she continued to laugh. I asked for a SUDS level, she said maybe a 1 or 2 and I instructed her to tap, which she did and it went right down to a one. Being South Louisiana, other drivers saw her tapping and thought she was waving and waved back, which only made her laugh more. She can now enjoy riding. I may eventually get to treat her husband, whom she reports grinds his teeth when they travel.
