EFT for 7 year old Jasmine's stage fright

Alert: This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Hi Everyone,

Being on stage as a child can be terrifying. Deborah Miller from Mexico tapped with a young friend of hers (Jasmine) and helped her release the trauma. This session also prepared Jasmine to perform successfully on stage in the future.

By Deborah Miller, Ph.D

Jasmine is a 7 year old friend of mine, who asked me if we could do some tapping together about something that happened to her.

She was part of a small school play that was performed at the conclusion of the school year. Her part was the mother of a football player. She knew her lines well before the performance, but once on stage she began to falter after the first few lines. She was scared and didn’t like that people were laughing, especially one woman. She felt they were laughing at her, even though her mother later told me that people were laughing because the play was humorous and it looked funny that a little girl was playing the mother of another child on stage.

We tapped on Jasmine’s fear … fear of speaking in front of others especially the parents and teachers … feeling laughed at by the people at the performance. I used phrases including:

I’m shy

They weren’t laughing at me

I don’t have to take it personally

I did well

They thought it was funny that a little girl was playing the “mom” of the other boy on stage

I remember my lines

I tap before a performance so I never get afraid again

I practice my lines and remember them even when in front of other people

They would be scared too if standing here and having to perform

I’m a powerful young girl (She giggled at this one, but liked it. We repeated it several times throughout the session.)

My power is in my stomach (This is where she had felt bad during the performance.)

I’m a powerful girl

I had her tell me her lines. At first, she was shy but as we continued to tap, she could say them all. I had her imagine herself on the stage saying her lines. Then imagine saying her lines in front of those who were at the performance. This time she could do it ... and felt fine.

GC COMMENT: To use EFT for the imagined circumstance, such as was done here, is often effective and the only practical approach available. However, the ultimate proof always involves performing in the actual circumstance. If any remaining fear shows up in the "real world" then, of course, more EFT needs to be done.
