EFT for resistance to doing EFT

Alert: This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Hi Everyone,

Lena Chen shows us how she helps newcomers overcome their resistance to EFT at her workshops.

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

From someone who used to have serious stage fright during presentations I now, thanks to EFT, enjoy sharing about EFT through workshops on a regular basis. Nothing beats the thrill I get when I go through the tapping with a group of enthusiastic newbies! (Note: I do inform them beforehand that what I share about EFT in the class is my own take on it, and point them towards the emofree website so they could learn more about it in its original version.)

I usually conduct my tapping classes in 2 three-hour sessions with at least a week's break in between because I like to have my participants go home to practice, and come back sharing their experience and then clearing up any doubts they may have about using EFT.

As expected, in the 2nd session, there are usually a few who admit that they didn't tap at all. My intention for my workshops is not just to share about how I use EFT, but also to inspire and motivate my participants to WANT to regularly use EFT after the class. So I ask them to list all their reasons for not wanting to use EFT more often (and I ask them to be absolutely honest about it!).

Here are the typical ones (which I'm sure is no surprise to you and other EFT practitioners!):

No time No issues to tap on Too weird Too easy Too tiring Don't know what words to say Don't understand how it works Not convinced that it works Afraid of other people judging me Too lazy

In my last workshop, I asked my participants to rate the statement "I am confident about using EFT more regularly after this class." on a 0-10 scale with 10 being "feels 100% true". Note I use the words "more regularly", and not just simply use it, because as you would know as well, it is with increased practice that one would experience success more often, and that only motivates one to use it even more.

Over half of the class was at less than a 5, which wasn't surprising, especially with the long list of negatives that were put on the whiteboard. I purposely did that to trigger all the possible resistance to EFT within each and every one of them, so they are nicely warmed up for tapping.

I asked them to choose the reason that felt most applicable to them, and I gave them the following instructions.

"Imagine that this reason, why you would NOT use EFT more regularly, is somewhere in your body. Just guess, which part of your body would this blockage to using EFT be located... (pause to give time). Give the intensity a number. (pause) Now, if there was a colour to this blockage, what would it be? (pause) And if there was a form to it, what form would it take? (pause) If you are stuck at any question, just guess... and give yourself the permission to be wrong here..."

(I find that last statement to be very useful, since so many of us block our intuition because we are so scared of being wrong.) Then I led the whole group in tapping on the blockage in their mind.

Even though I have this blockage to using EFT more regularly... Even though I have this blockage, I am willing to release all resistance within me. Even though I have this blockage, it's ok, and I choose to be healed on all levels of my being.

When I asked if they noticed a difference in the appearance of their blockage, 14 out of 19 raised their hands.

After tapping one more round, I gave the same instructions except with a slight change, "If I STILL have a blockage to doing EFT, where in my body would that be..."

After 2 more rounds of tapping, all of my participants have raised their hands at least once, indicating they have noticed a change in the colour/form of their blockage.

When I asked them to rate the same sentence, 90% of the class were at least a 7, and only 3 were at a 5 or 6 (and I still deeply and completely accept myself for that!), which is a significant difference from where they were at the beginning!

So far this seems to be the most effective exercise I have used in my workshops for reducing their resistance towards doing EFT regularly, compared to times when I led the group with Setup Statements for all the reasons listed. I guess it is because while we are tapping as a group, each of them was focusing on their own biggest resistance towards EFT. The incorporating of NLP techniques probably helps too, as it might be less threatening to view the issue as a coloured object in the body.

I hope this would be useful to those who are working with clients or sharing about EFT in groups, when resistance to EFT seems to be blocking the other party from fully benefiting from this wonderful gift. May EFT continue to be spread out there so that more people can be empowered to be their own healer! :)

Much love, Lena
