EFT newcomer taps herself out of a dissociative state during regular therapy

Alert: This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods.

Hi Everyone,

Professional EFT'ers should have high interest in this article by Susan Bertrand. She is a client with severe traumatic issues and started to dissociate in front of her conventional (non-EFT) therapist. She knew enough about EFT to begin tapping on her collarbone point as the dissociation began. Read the article to find out the details.

Hugs, Gary

By Susan Bertrand

Hello Gary,

I am new to EFT, as a user that is, and my EFT practitioner is Cindy Dillon.

In addition to Cindy, I have been going to one on one therapy at the best local mental health center we have here for almost 2 years for depression & anxiety. I also take the corresponding meds. I have deep childhood & teenage trauma issues, and at times would dissociate during my therapy session. Only my therapist could bring me back.

Today I had an EFT session with Cindy, and I told her that during my last regular therapy session, I started to dissociate and could feel it coming on. I usually start to freeze, close my eyes, & have great difficulty speaking. I had already told my therapist about EFT & she is watching a video on it & reading the book. She is trained in EMDR, but has not used it on me.

I am writing to tell you that I TAPPED MYSELF out of dissociation! I told my therapist I didn't feel well & I thought I was going out. I then started pounding on my collar bone point. I couldn't speak at all, I just kept pounding/tapping on my collar bone point. It was a real effort to do this, but I somehow understood that this tapping was my lifeline back. I went in & out a little, trying to not let the dissociation suck me back in. I was never able to say anything like a set up phrase while I did the tapping, I just did it.

I finally made the round of the tapping points, but still without a set up, etc. I finally came totally out of the dissociative state, or maybe you could say tapping kept me from going further in & brought me out. I couldn't believe I did that, tapped my way out! I was really impressed with EFT & proud of myself. My therapist is sitting there taking the whole thing in (she is REALLY good). So what a testimony I was for EFT, right in the office of a therapist who knew just a little about EFT. She is trying to understand it & doesn't mind if I tap during our sessions, but I wasn't trying to force anything on her. (although I was secretly hoping she or someone there would take the EFT ball & run with it).

I was impressed myself, but Cindy said this was huge and that I should tell you about it. So here it is, my experience with EFT bringing me out of a dissociative state.

Sincerely,

Susan Bertrand
