Excruciating dental pain subsides after 10 minutes of EFT

Catherine Umberger experienced major dental pain after her pain killers wore off. Advil did nothing for it but, after 10 minutes of EFT, the pain was reduced to a very mild level.

By Catherine Umberger

Gary, I honestly thought that in order for EFT to work to ease pain, there had to be some emotional background to that pain. But this thought changed for me yesterday when I tapped for pain, and pain only.

GC COMMENT: Pain often responds to EFT without needing to uncover emotional issues. However, when pain doesn't respond quickly, or plateaus and doesn't improve beyond a certain level, then there is likely an emotional cause behind it that needs to be addressed.

CATHERINE CONTINUES: Yesterday morning, I went to the dentist to have a cavity filled. I actually don't mind the dentist, the sounds are a bit annoying but I have no fear of the dentist and no problems going or having work done - it simply is not an issue for me.

Well after the dentist, I went to work, still numb. 5 hours later the numbness finally wore off and this excruciating pain set in! I know I probably experienced the same pain before, but for some reason, today was unbearable! Well I took 400 mg of Advil and half hour later, no difference.

I decided to go home from work and just lay in bed since I couldn't take any more meds (I nurse my baby). On my way home, I thought I might try tapping on the pain, and did a modified version (since I was driving) which took the pain from "I just want my head removed" to about a 12 (on a 0-10 scale). I also became focused on the pain, which made me feel like perhaps I could really do something with EFT for it. It gave me a sense of hope and perhaps, control. Intuitively I knew that I did not need to address any emotional issues with this - it would either work or not - because I have no emotional ties with dentistry and this pain was immediate - not a lurking chronic pain . So, when I got home, I laid down and tapped exclusively for pain (Even though I have this pain in my jaw, etc.)

Before this point, I had never tried tapping for tangible things ... mostly just "Even though I can't lose this weight ...or other things that I have not been able to measure ... this was something that, if it worked, would PROVE to me that I could actually do this.

So I tapped. I went from a 12 to a 2 - in 10 minutes ... then I was so relaxed, I fell asleep, woke up later and the pain stayed at a two and diminished as it healed through the rest of that night and next day. I could barely believe it!

I had always believed that I should target EFT towards the emotional aspect, and now I know that, for reasons I really do not understand, perhaps the pain is simply an energy disruption ??, that EFT works on pain, pure and simple!

Honestly, part of me wants to believe that the Advil did it - but after 45 minutes with no pain change, I really cannot "rationalize away" the fact that this was the EFT and nothing else. What an amazing tool! I feel like having this "little" success proves to me that I actually can do EFT with success and bolsters my confidence in myself! Thanks for listening! Catherine L. Umberger
