For procrastination: The "Feel the Feeling" Technique

Here is a useful way to approach procrastination issues from Ulrike Tuzar (from Germany).

By Ulrike Tuzar

Another way of using EFT is what I call Feel the Feeling Technique. As always I tried it with myself first.

It came about as a way to help get over my hesitation/procrastination to start an important project. Even though I tapped on this hesitation, I couldn't really feel how it would be if I succeeded. I knew I would like it and wanted it, but I couldn't get started. I just couldn't really connect with it.

So I defined a place in my room that represented my goal/project. I did this so I could feel my feelings as I approached my goal (this place in my room). I started 3 meters away from this place and moved slowly towards my "goal". Whenever any discomfort came up, I stopped and tapped on it, of course.

The last steps were the most interesting steps because very high intensity came up; it was fear and excitement at the same time. I want to succeed... it's too big for me... What I noticed was that the curiosity and the excitement increased and it felt as though it was too much for me ... like it would burst my chest. So I tapped on that and when I took the final step I really was there. Feeling all the pride and excitement and lightheartedness and I was all smiles. After that I did start the project. This feeling was like a kind of fuel for me. And I succeeded!

I do this way of tapping quite often; when I want to reach a goal, place an affirmation or make a choice. It adds some quality. I also do it with clients. It seems to be easier "not to feel angry, sad, scared, unsure..." instead of "to feel loved, successful, save..." and when one really can feel how it feels, one probably knows already the way to go there.

It takes me hours to explain something in English; I hope it comes across, what I want to say.

Love,

Ulrike
