Hi Everyone,
The standard EFT approach takes aim at our NEGATIVE barriers to improvement. With these out of the way, positive approaches are more easily pursued. However, the negative approach, if not properly explained, can backfire with some people. Baerbel Froehlin gives us an example of this from which we can all learn.

Hi Gary!
Pointing out the negative feelings people have when they come into my office for help is crucial for fast relief. Â That is what I experience each time I work with EFT. Â After clients have been "allowed" to finally voice these feelings, healing takes place fast, sometimes also in unexpected areas. Â
Stuck negative energy - which is the problem of problems, as we know - is set free and released, making room for a positive flow. Â I'm a true believer in addressing the negatives first, as you can see. Â However, for some clients you MUST make sure they understand why you are addressing the negatives. Otherwise, the session can go sour. Here's an example from which we can all learn.
Years ago I had a journalist come in for an interview about my business. Â She was a somewhat overweight female in her thirties. Â We had never met before, and she had not read anything about my work (which was somewhat unusual) before she came to my office. Â She was a totally blank page; she didn't know much about Hypnotherapy and nothing about EFT.
Actually, mostly she came to interview me about an exhibition of art expressions that members of my Hypnosis/Journaling group had done over time in our weekly meetings. Â As usual, I never miss an opportunity to inform members of the press about the wonders of EFT. Â So as she took her notes about the art exhibition, I casually introduced her to EFT, pointing out how much and how fast the group had improved because I had added EFT to our sessions. Â We had talked about weight loss groups, and because she clearly was interested in that issue, I offered to do a few rounds of EFT with her.
We started out by addressing the negatives.
Please note that as a Hypnotherapist I will have never have clients say "I need/want to lose weight" because the subconscious mind will go looking for it, getting it back, once you've succeeded.
Even though I want to get rid of some pounds…
Even though I don't like looking at myself…  (that's what she had told me)
Even though I feel fat and ugly... Â (that's what she had told me)
At this point she stopped me in the middle of our second round. Â In a very agitated tone she refused to go on, saying, "This is unbelievable, to even point it out to me! Â How cruel! Â I don't like this!" Â With an angry face, in two seconds she gathered her notes and rushed out of my office. Â I didn't even get a moment to tell her why we did it this way or how to do it otherwise. Â She was gone.
I did get my interview in the papers though; it was actually pretty flattering. Â However, this incident is still very vivid in my memory and will prevent me from letting this happen again. Â I always explain the negative approach up front and watch people carefully while we apply EFT.
I will facilitate an EFT ANGER Intensive in the fall.
Love and Peace to all!
