The wonderments of surrogate EFT -- this time for knee pain

Alert: This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods.

Note: This article assumes you have a working knowledge of EFT. Newcomers can still learn from it but are advised to peruse our Free Gold Standard (Official) EFT Tutorialâ„¢ for a more complete understanding.

Hi Everyone,

Madeleine Allen from Scotland was running a class and noticed one of the participants was having knee pain. During a meditative portion of the class she did surrogate EFT for the attendee's pain. Madeleine says, "At the break, about 30 minutes later, I spoke to Laura, and said I'd noticed that her knee had been hurting her. She told me that she had dislocated it 4 days ago, and had been having treatment in a hospital until only yesterday. She then said "Look, you can see how swollen it still is" and when she looked down at her knee, we were both amazed to see that the swelling had completely gone away. She then also realised that the pain had subsided too!"

Hugs, Gary

By Madeleine Allen I've been using EFT for a few months. At first only on myself but now I have been increasing my use of EFT within my NLP work and my leadership development training, and am constantly seeing benefits of this practice. I wanted to share with you the results of the first time that I used intentional, surrogate EFT.

I was teaching an NLP class, and I noticed that one of the delegates, Laura, was clearly in pain with her knee. At one stage in the day, my co-trainer was guiding the delegates through a meditative visualisation process, and I could see that Laura was wincing and rubbing her knee, and seemed to be unable to connect to the process. At the same time, while there was a harmonious energy from all the rest of the participants as they worked silently together, I felt a real energetic disruption from Laura, which made me sense that she wasn't able to benefit from what was going on.

As the class was silent at that point, I couldn't ask her what the problem was specifically. However, she was clearly in a great deal of pain, and I wanted to help her to be able to have a good experience from the day.

I decided to do some intentional (surrogate) tapping for Laura, so I mentally sent out my highest intentions for her, and then proceeded to tap my Karate Chop point whilst mentally repeating:

I am Laura, and even through my knee hurts...

I then did a brief short-cut round with reminder phrases that intuitively came to me (saying them silently, inside my own head), such as:

EB I am Laura, this knee pain. UE I am Laura, my knee really hurts. CB I am Laura, I can't concentrate on what's around me.

I quickly sensed a relaxation of her energy, and I also notice that she stopped wincing and rubbing her knee. At that point the demands of the course also meant I had to stop tapping to move on to other things. I had probably been tapping for less than 2 minutes in total.

At the break, about 30 minutes later, I spoke to Laura, and said I'd noticed that her knee had been hurting her. She told me that she had dislocated it 4 days ago, and had been having treatment in a hospital until only yesterday. She then said "Look, you can see how swollen it still is" and when she looked down at her knee, we were both amazed to see that the swelling had completely gone away. She then also realised that the pain had subsided too!

My thoughts on the deeper implications: I'm aware that my tapping only addressed the surface symptoms, and later on at the end of the workshop Laura's knee was hurting and a little swollen again. The circumstances did not permit me to offer to work with her directly on any underlying issues, but I am grateful that at least I could give her a little bit of temporary relief.

I am not yet certain on the ethics of doing EFT (or any kind of intervention) for someone who is not aware that it is happening, and has therefore not given their permission (I'd be interested in Gary's insight on this). So it was very important to my own integrity and congruence to check first that I was doing it with the highest and purest intentions.

GC COMMENT: In response to Madeleine's question on permission, see this article.

Incidentally, I am increasingly finding a pattern that knee pain is almost always connected to deeper root causes to do with stability and support (or rather, lack of stability and support) so I sometimes find that this insight can be a helpful starting point to find specific underlying events that contribute to any such feelings of being unstable or unsupported.

Madeleine
