  • Do we need to heal the past so that we can move into the future?

Alert : This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods. Hi Everyone, Pamela Bruner makes some excellent points as she explores the value of collapsing past events. A good read. Hugs, Gary By Pamela Bruner, EFTCert-I A question that I often receive from clients is 'Do I need to go back into the past in order to move forward?' Then they go on to say, often, that they don't want to look at the past, they just want to move ahead. As a coach, I have a great deal of sympathy for this. Coaching, as opposed to therapy, is supposed to deal with the present and the future, and not with the past. But the answer to the question 'Do I need to deal with the past?' is more complex than that. The answer is: 'it depends!' It is possible to move forward without reference to the past, both for specific incidents as well as in general. After all, most of the world is moving without having healed the past! However, there are a number of situations in which working with the past is the most efficient or effective way to proceed. Let's say, for example, that you want to or need to learn to speak to groups for your job or business. Because of an incident in 3rd grade, you're very uncomfortable doing that. You could make the choice to get a new job, or go into a new business that doesn't require you to speak. That's one option. If you do feel the need to be able to speak to groups, you may want to go back and clear out that 3rd grade classroom embarrassment, if one of the following is true: 1) It caused you so much trauma that you just can't get up and speak in front of groups now, and you're completely stopped. In that case, energy work such as EFT is probably your best option to overcome it. 2) It caused you enough trauma that, although you can speak in front of groups, you don't like doing it, and are always looking for ways to avoid it. You're also probably not very good at it, since it's so uncomfortable. This is the situation that most people are in - they aren't completely stopped by the events from the past, they are just slowed down. You can take the longer, harder road of forcing yourself to speak in front of groups, going to speaking training, etc, until you finally reach some sort of ability to do it. Over time, you may even begin to enjoy it. You could also try to work with your current fear, and use EFT only on 'I'm afraid of speaking to groups'. This would be another technique that would avoid the necessity of going into the past. When you know the specific, originating event that's stopping you, however, clearing that event is almost certainly the most efficient way to move forward. So there are many situations in which working with the past incident is the best (meaning most efficient, most effective) way to proceed. An exception: You may want to work in the present (or with visualized future events) rather than the past event if you don't remember an originating event. You can also make up an originating event, but for some people, visualizing what they THINK will happen in the future is easier than creating a totally imaginary memory from the past. (Note that the actual originating event may pop up when you begin tapping on the future event.) It IS possible to clear a fear of an anticipated event without accessing the past. The drawbacks are that it may take longer, and you may find more aspects that need to be cleared. For example, if you clear a fear of addressing a group of people that you know, you may still find fear around addressing a group of people that you don't know, or people from a certain profession. Clearing the originating event can sometimes (not always) take care of multiple aspects more quickly and completely. All of this discussion so far has centered on whether to focus on clearing past events for a specific issue. There are two other situations in which clearing past events is very important: 1) If you're a healer, coach, counselor, practitioner, or therapist, you'll want to heal your past. Use the Personal Peace Procedure or some other similar technique to clear out trauma and hurt from your past. This will enable you to be more present to your clients, and not be triggered by issues that they bring to be healed. 2) If you want your life to be easier, clearing out the past is like spring cleaning for your home. All of the traumas from the past are potential triggers for upset, fear, anger, or other negative emotions, which directly impact the quality of your life. Remove the triggers, and when challenging events happen, you just won't feel challenged. I hope that this helps clear up the question 'Do I HAVE to look at the past?'. Not necessarily, but it may be the best action you can take. Warmly, Pamela Bruner, Success Coach, EFTCert-I Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • A newbie with 6 rounds of EFT eliminates her bladder infection pain

Hi Everyone, Gina Kapuscinski could not find an available doctor for her bladder infection so aimed EFT at it instead. Here is what she said, "Then I did the complete 9 Gamut procedure and repeated the EFT sequence. This was done 4 times before I stopped to reassess - I found light twinges remained - so I continued 2 more rounds. Then, ALL GONE! AND STAYED GONE!" Please consult physicians on all medical issues. Hugs, Gary By Gina Kapuscinski It's only been a year now that I have been working with EFT, and have had many positive results. However NOTHING was as dramatic or as definite for me to accept as the results from using EFT for the intense discomfort of a bladder infection. The discomfort was close to unbearable, and there was no way - short of the emergency room - that medical assistance would be possible. (Why is it bladder infections tend to happen just when doctors' offices are closed for several days and holiday?) Lying on my bed, it occurred to me to try EFT - it certainly would be a clear-cut situation of it working in this situation or not! I was definitely at a 10+ of discomfort. Even though I am in great discomfort... I ache so badly! The lower left-hand side of the trunk of my body aches, and I feel frantic. Aching The lower trunk of my body is in extreme discomfort and I feel frantic. Aching. The discomfort is unbearable! I ache and am frantic. Then I did the complete 9 Gamut procedure and repeated the EFT sequence. This was done 4 times before I stopped to reassess - I found light twinges remained - so I continued 2 more rounds. Then, ALL GONE! AND STAYED GONE! GC COMMENT:  This is a classic example of EFT's potential power when aimed at a symptom.  These "one minute wonders" have been reported for decades and are absolutely astonishing when they occur.  For perspective, though, these results can be misleading as many people get little or no relief with this symptomatic (surface) approach and erroneously conclude that EFT doesn't work for them.  That's why it is so essential to understand the more in-depth approaches offered in our Free Gold Standard (Official) EFT Tutorial. • The value of taking dead aim at the negatives

Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods. Hi Everyone, Although I usually like to tip toe into cases that contain heavy negativity or trauma, there are occasions where hitting the negatives head-on provides quality benefits. Baerbel Froehlin provides us with such a case. Hugs, Gary By Baerbel Froehlin, CHt./HypnoCoach, EFT-ADV Hi Gary! I'm a true believer in saying and addressing the negatives first.  I am completely sure that after clients have been finally "allowed" to voice these feelings, healing takes place fast.  It will definitely free them of lots of unexpressed, sometimes deeply hurtful thoughts and emotions they may be having about themselves.  They may have overheard others talking in hurtful phrases about them, like family members or people in their work environment.  If these phrases are not out in the open a sound positive change may not be possible.  I find it often, though, that the most hurtful remarks are made by the clients themselves, about themselves. For example, I worked with a woman recently who came to me for weight loss and a few small physical issues.  It seemed that no matter what the doctors had prescribed, the physical issues didn't disappear the way they were expected to.  This woman, "Clara", talked about herself in extremely negative ways.  After a few minutes listening to her I was almost cringing in pain as she belittled herself constantly.  I know that many women do that to themselves, they even smile a painful smile while they do it. She was tapping on her sternum as she told me all these horrible things when I jumped in and started repeating her phrases.  Everything she came up with I repeated back to her, feeling her immense pain almost like my own, like the pain of many female abuse survivors. I need to lose weight; I'm so terrible to look at… I'm fat and ugly … nobody wants to be with me… I can't look at myself … I'm so ugly it gives me the creeps… I can't bear looking at me … fat all over … I'm not surprised nobody wants to be with me… I have this ugly face … and my body is fat ... fat … fat … I hate myself … I look disgusting … I can't stand myself Words like these really go against everything that I have worked on forever with many, many female clients.  Women, who had been abused and had very low self-esteem because of the abuse.  Women, who then struggled, working hard on themselves to get through the self-hatred and finally meet the little girl inside, reconnect with who they really always were and now could become again.  Women, who after lots of emotional work, lots of time and money spent finally learned to accept and love themselves for the true, whole, and so very capable person they were.  After purging their negative feelings about themselves they were able to move on; EFT did it well for them. And here was yet another woman, hating herself.  While Clara and I played the phrases back and forth I noticed that she finally slowed down.  Her face changed, she started weeping.  I did too but kept on tapping.  While she was sobbing uncontrollably I went on talking and she repeated my phrases. I want to love myself … but I can't… I need to forgive myself … but I don't know how… I want to be my own best friend to support and accept myself always… I don't want to feel so alone anymore…  I need love … I need appreciation … I need to be able to trust… I want to make my little girl feel safe and happy again … she deserves it… And then many more like these, until Clara stopped weeping, started smiling, yelled out the words with me until we stopped, exhausted but relieved big time.  She left as "a different person,” kept tapping regularly and over time really turned herself around.  She now has a more healthy relationship with herself, some of the weight has dropped and her physical issues are almost forgotten.  She still describes our first session as "incredible" to others; the freeing way to express what had been inside of her, strangling her for so long, only to be turned around into liberation and wholeness. Love and Peace to all! Baerbel Froehlin, CHt./HypnoCoach, EFT-ADV Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • Healing families with EFT - a historical approach

Hi Everyone, Deborah Donndelinger says, "I have come up with an approach for using EFT to resolve deep-seated problems rooted in our family history." You may it useful. Hugs, Gary By Deborah Donndelinger, EFTCert-I Hi Gary, I have come up with an approach for using EFT to resolve deep-seated problems rooted in our family history. (I call it Family Energetics). I am getting outstanding results with every single client I use this approach with. That's because I have folks look at areas that they didn't realize were impacting them and then use EFT to clear those areas, gently and effectively. So this approach adds in a different line of questioning that can show where we need to tap. I don't recommend it for folks new to EFT. My clients, including many seasoned EFT practitioners, are pleasantly surprised at the amount of energy moved and the great results achieved. They feel a greater sense of peace and ease with their family relationships, work, money, and self-love - all good stuff! I love it because we are extending the foundational EFT principle of loving ourselves no matter what (of course found in the set-up phrase) to the entire ancestral family system. It's a built-in human desire - we want to feel good about where we come from and who we are. The starting premise, from the field of Family Constellations, is that any place there is an excluded person in the family history that hasn't been recognized, there is a loss of love available to the current person. The solution is to see what and who's been lost. We then use EFT to clear the emotions for all involved using tapping and surrogate tapping. This opens the path so that we can feel and find the love that supports us, which is the key to moving forward and unleashing a huge capacity to give love back to ourselves, our families, and the world in general. We get support when we are energetically connected to our family line. When we can see every mishap, every bad action, every horrible thing that happened and see the love that's behind that story, we move into a space of forgiveness and freedom. This requires a very real and deep ability by the practitioner to be non-judgmental and view everyone with love, regardless of their actions. This requires the courage to see what's in the system as well as the knowledge that the emotions can be cleared with tapping. Again, I do NOT recommend this approach for folks new to EFT. When to Use The approach I am describing here I use mostly with folks who have already done a lot of tapping. In fact, there might not be any obvious symptoms or issues on the surface but after doing this work, things just get even better than before. It also can be used in when there are specific issues being worked on. I use it after we've tapped on the specific issues. I definitely do not use it as the client's first exposure to tapping. He/she needs to develop confidence and trust in the effectiveness of EFT first. My preference is to do this exercise with every client; so much rich material comes up. How to Use The first place to start is with the client's connection to the parents. I ask the client to imagine facing her mother and father and tell me what she notices. I've never met a client who didn't have some sort of intensity the first time they did this exercise. In fact, if I suspect that there might be a very strong reaction, I'll use a version of the tearless trauma technique and have the client imagine herself imagining herself facing her parents. I use a combination of my client's language and my own as I introduce some reframes. Here's an example based on a composite of several clients' experiences. Me: Imagine your parents are in front of you, facing you. How close are they to you? Client: My dad is right in my face and my mom is off in the corner. She's turned away. Me: How does it feel with your dad there and your mom away? Client: I feel scared - like he's going to hurt me and my mom is not going to help. Depending on how much intensity the client is feeling, we might start tapping immediately or I might ask for more information about how and where she feels the intensity in their body. I ask for their level of intensity so we can track progress. Even though I'm scared because my father is going to hurt me and my mother isn't available to help me... Even though I have this fear in my stomach, I love and accept my fear anyway... Introducing the reframe: Even though my father's anger isn't about me, but I was the one who was there to feel it, I love and accept and forgive myself anyway. EB: This anger SE: It's not about me UE: I was the target UN: This fear CH: It wasn't about me. CB: I was the target. UA: I can now see this fear and anger and it's okay. Once the level of intensity is at 3 or less on a scale of 0 to 10 or less, we move on. The next step is to ask about the underlying loss that's causing the family disconnect. Since this loss is often hidden, we need to know what to look for. It's important that the practitioner keep a picture in her head of each generation of parents being connected to their children, with the love flowing from generation to generation. That's the solution picture; our job is to find out why the love has stopped flowing and to KNOW that the connection can be made again by this work. There are key questions to ask at this point. I am looking for lost children, miscarriages, lost loves, early deaths, crimes, losses due to war, losses of a homeland, any place where a connection was lost and wasn't properly acknowledged. In this case, knowing that there is a reason the mother is turned away, and that we need to find a way to reconnect the mother with the client, I ask about the mother's history. Please note that I don't ask about the father. We are looking for where energy is being drained or lost from the family system. The mother is the one who is not available, not the father. The client tells me that her mother lost a child in birth before the client was born. Depending on how much intensity the client is feeling we might tap immediately or I might I ask the client to just imagine looking at her mother mourning the unborn child. Together, we tap for the mother and the unborn child. Tapping for the mother: Even though I lost my baby, and I can't stand to feel it, I am open to the idea of loving myself anyway. Even though I feel unlovable because I lost my baby, I am open to the idea that I am still the mother to that baby. Even though I've been missing this baby horribly and I just didn't know it, I'm becoming aware that I have another child who needs my love. EB: This unbearable loss SE: I want my baby. UE: They didn't let me hold her. UN: This grief. CH: I want my baby. CB: This loss. UA: I am willing now to see my baby. Now it's time to introduce the concept that the baby and mother are always connected in love and that the mother is available for her living child. EB: I see this baby and she will always have a place in my heart. SE: I see this baby, she's mine, she's ours, she will always have a place in both of our hearts. UE: I see this baby, she's ours. She was the first child. UN: And we had another. CH: I am the mother to two children. CB: I can see both of my children now. UA: I can feel the love for both of my children. I ask the client to recheck how it feels to imagine looking at her mother and sibling. At this time, the client tunes into her own sense of loss of a sibling and we tap on that. After a few more rounds of tapping, when the client feels at peace, we then go back to the original imagination of the client facing her parents. In this case, the client feels complete. She's feeling connected to both of her parents. When she checks in with me later in the week, she tells me how connected she feels with her own children and how much easier things feel overall for her. At a family reunion later that month, she is amazed at how she is connecting with her extended family and she no longer feels out of place. There are many levels to this approach: connecting with grandparents and great-grandparents, connecting with our homeland, connecting with our own children, and connecting with our partners. Some clients need to explore many facets of their family history, others need just this one reconnection exercise I've described. Regardless of how it happens, imagine if every person who learned EFT, every person who tapped, was able to feel connected and supported and loved by their family heritage? What a huge outpouring of love would be available for the world. That's my dream. Love and hugs to you and thanks for all you do. Hi Everyone, Here's an interesting idea by Gene Monterastelli that many people can use. Hugs, Gary By Gene Monterastelli One of my EFT phone clients "Christi" was having a very hard time getting out of bed in the morning to go to the gym.  We had been doing a lot of work about all the "penalties" for going to gym: Everyone will see she is so out of shape ... She doesn’t like the way she looks in exercise clothing ... She is so out of shape it is hopeless ... She will fail again. We were making great progress around these issues, but it was still a great struggle for her to get out of bed in the morning.  I had read an article from the newsletter on Future Tapping for dealing with things we fear for the future and thought it might help for statement of things we would like to see happen.  The thought being if we make statements about what we would like to have happen, all of the issues that prevent this from happening will arise, even if we don't name them or even know what they are (much like the Hero Technique). So I had Christi rate how the truth of the statement, "I am going to jump out of bed tomorrow morning, energetically, and ready to go to the gym."  She rated this as a 4 on a scale of 0 to 10.  So we tapped... I am going to climb in to bed and be relaxed. My body is going to peacefully and naturally drift to sleep. I am going to get a good night sleep. The sleep will be restful. I will wake up energized and ready for the day. I am going to be ready to go to the gym. I am going have a great work out. I have going to be happy with my progress. I am going to leave the gym full of energy for the rest of the day. We then tested the truth of the statement, "I am going to jump out of bed tomorrow morning, energetically, and ready to go to the gym."  It was now and 8 out of 10.  I then asked what part of the statement didn't feel true.  We were then able to deal with whatever residual issues were left (which I can't remember right now). Christi has reported back that this a great tool and it has made it easier to get up in the morning to go to the gym.  So much so, she now uses the technique to set up her whole day. I have found this is a great technique for EFT beginners to use by themselves.  Many of my clients don't feel like they know what they are supposed to say or what to focus in on when they are doing tapping on their own.  This protocol is easy for them to use because all they need to do is state exactly what they want.  The protocol is very simple: 1. State what you would like to see happen in the future. (e.g. I am going to spring out of bed tomorrow.  I am going to be calm when I confront my boss.  I am going to be at peace when I visit my mother in the hospital.) 2. Rate how true you think the statement is. 3. Keep tapping and state how everything is going to unfold in a prefect world. 4. Re-rate the original statement.  If it is not fully true.  Repeat the process. Gene Monterastelli Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • Visualizing and tapping on limiting beliefs

Hi Everyone, Everyone has limiting beliefs and they can be very expensive. Kiran Zehra Haider gives us some thoughts on using EFT to dissolve them. Hugs, Gary By Kiran Zehra Haider, MSE, EFT-ADV Hi Gary, Someone recently asked me how to use the visualization technique I described in my first article, A clever combination of tapping and visualization to eliminate limiting beliefs, those ideas we hold deep inside about ourselves that set the boundaries for our experience in life.  Beliefs that say I can only go so far because “I’m not good enough,” or “I don’t know enough,” or “I don’t deserve more than that,” etc. The nice thing about the setup statement in EFT is that it shows us what our limiting beliefs are.  For example, while tapping on fears around giving a presentation, I may say something like this: Even though I’m afraid I’ll forget some important point and people won’t respect me… Even though I don’t know enough to teach a class in EFT… Even though I’ve never done this before… I think I have to learn more, earn a degree, go to another seminar, somehow become an authority, then I can teach this to others.  These beliefs limit how we function in the world.  In fact, however much EFT you have learned, it is a great deal more than a large number of the people in the world know, which is nothing.  So how can we combine visualization and EFT to neutralize these limiting beliefs?  Just start tapping on the KC point and begin rambling to yourself about the different aspects of your limiting belief.  For example, Even though I don't think I really know enough to go out and offer classes in EFT… Even though I thought it wasn't bothering me, it really is… Even though that makes me feel nervous… Even though I'm really anxious about trying to do this professionally… Even though I'm thinking about that again and it's hurting my shoulder… Just keep tapping on anything that comes up while you tap all the usual points.  For example, This doubt This feeling I'm not good enough This feeling i don't know enough This old stuff again This worry and doubt in my shoulder This feeling inadequate This feeling undeserving While tapping, ask yourself, If I could see my fear or limiting belief, what would it look like?  How do I feel when I hold that thought in my mind about myself?  Where is it inside of me?  How do I appear when I have thought about myself?  What is my posture?  What expression do I have on my face? Once you have an image in mind, resume tapping while you hold that image.  Then formulate a positive choice statement and come up with an image of yourself that matches that choice.  For example, I choose to feel calm and confident. GC COMMENT: It would also be useful to break down some of the globally stated issues above into the specific events that underlie them. KIRAN CONTINUES: How do you look to yourself when you hold that thought in your mind?  I like to imagine myself walking and talking, joking and smiling and gesturing like Gary.  Follow Dr. Pat Carrington’s Choices tapping procedure while holding both pictures in your mind.  The negative image will begin to fade and recede into the background while the positive statement becomes larger, clearer and brighter. Once you have the positive image firmly established and your limiting belief neutralized, try tapping the positive feeling and the image into your third eye point between the two eyebrows.  This is a really great way fix the work you’ve done into your subconscious mind so you can easily access both the feeling and the image when you are actually in the situation you imagined. • Give Yourself a Gift by Creating an EFT Journal

Hi Everyone, Here's a useful idea from EFT Master Pat Carrington that should help us get the most out of EFT. She starts her article with, "There are so many ways that we can increase the value of EFT in our lives that it is always surprising to me that so many people don’t use most of them.  It is as though a person had purchased a high-end computer capable of running the newest, most advanced programs and with huge storage space, and used it just for family e-mail and an exchange of photos." Hugs, Gary By Patricia Carrington PhD, EFT Master It’s no doubt efficient for such a purpose, but look at the unused potential! One of the most effective ways to increase the value of EFT in your life is to have what I call an “EFT journal.  If you’re willing to take the few simple steps required to start one, it can make a substantial difference in the way in which EFT impacts you. One of the values of such a journal is the manner in which it reminds you of the benefits you have already gained from EFT.  It is incredibly easy to remember only those times when you may have used EFT ineffectively or incompletely for a certain issue.  This is no criticism of you –– we have been hardwired to be alert to danger and to notice difficulties so that we can adapt sufficiently to survive as a species.  Doing that is a very good thing when necessary.  What we forget, however, is that it is equally important to recognize our successes, the things that go right in our lives, and this is something that to which most people pay far too little attention. An EFT journal can be as simple as a three column ledger notebook obtainable in any stationery store, or it can be as elaborate and personally inspirational as those elegant “Personal Journals” with hard covers, fine quality paper and spiral binding that you see displayed in top-rated book stores.  The kind of physical journal notebook you choose will reflect your personal preference.  Some people delight in journal writing while others don't take to it at all but would not mind jotting down some bare facts in a ledger.  Choose what is most compatible to you. Now for the major use of this journal.  Basically, it is a place where you can write down the situations that you used EFT for that day, the EFT statements used to handle them, and any benefits you gained from applying EFT in each instance.  If you are detail oriented, you may find it valuable to record your initial intensity rating on a 0 to 10 point scale and your final intensity rating on that same scale after using EFT.  However, this is not a necessity, and if it feels too cumbersome, then by all means omit that step. It is especially important that you write down the gains you have made from doing EFT before they fade from your mind.  These gains will fade very quickly if you do not do this.  What is so beneficial about a journal is that later, at times when you might feel discouraged or doubt that you can ever solve your problems, reviewing your gains from past EFT sessions can be an instant mood boost and a great incentive to continue with your use of EFT. One more word about the practical considerations involved in keeping an EFT journal. It can be very helpful to also keep a small spiral notebook in your purse or back pocket, or else use some index cards to jot down information about your use of EFT right on the spot as it occurs. You can then transfer this information to your journal at home at the end of the day. In order for you to see how this works out in practice, below is a typical day's entry in an EFT journal, written by an imagined EFT'er, "Penny", in her daily journal. SITUATION: Joe home from office early. Grouchy, a pain in the neck. EFT STATEMENT: Even though Joe is grouchy, I choose to feel happy today. EFT BENEFIT (i.e. the result of her tapping): I eased up. Could get on with preparing dinner. He was friendly later on fight avoided. SITUATION: Kids were late for supper. Cathy didn't arrive at all. I had cooked too much steak by mistake. EFT STATEMENT: Even though I'm mad at the kids, I choose to enjoy the steak and use the leftovers in a great way! EFT BENEFIT: Joe and I had a good meal together. I figures out how to make a casserole tomorrow with the rest of the steak. SITUATION: Blanche phoned to gripe about Ted's :bad behavior". A bore. EFT STATEMENT: Even though Blanche can be annoying, I choose to have a great day doing my own thing. EFT BENEFIT: The whole thing lifted. I was able to tell her nicely that Ted has his side too and I think she got the message. I may even have helped her. SITUATION: Dishwasher jammed. Someone had dropped a spoon in the bottom and it had caught in the machinery. Couldn't get the machine apart. EFT STATEMENT: Even though things never work right, I choose to notice the things that are really working great. EFT BENEFIT: I felt fine. So what if it's stuck? I don't need those dishes until tomorrow anyway. You can see that the entries above are rather detailed, you may prefer to be more brief, or you may like this kind of expressive notation.  Use your own style. You will be surprised at how valuable your journal entires can be when you review them a week, a month, or many months from now.  Not only will they give you ideas for EFT statements which may prove extremely effective under other circumstances, but they will remind you of the value of EFT. This is a really great way of exercising the hidden power of EFT and getting the most from it! Regards, Pat Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • EFT fixes car to pass inspection

Alert : This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Hi Everyone, Here is another one of our "EFT for inanimate objects" examples. Some readers, of course, will consider this absolute woo-woo and an insult to their intelligence. After all, this sort of thing is supposed to be impossible. However, those readers acquainted with the newest findings in Quantum Physics may find it quite plausible. You decide for yourself. Hugs, Gary By Utahna Tassie One client told me how she used EFT to fix her car which she needed to have pass Emissions and Inspection.  She knew it wouldn't pass, so she tapped for the problem and related anxiety and decided that she had to at least get a rejection sticker since she was overdue and couldn't risk getting a ticket.  The car did NOT pass and her brother wouldn't work on it.  Three things were wrong with it.  One headlight was out, the steering column was wobbly and one wiper blade was broken.  Out in the parking lot, she tapped for the anxiety, and then realized that she could call on the angels which we had talked about in a previous session.    She said a little prayer, got out of the car, went over and kicked the headlight with her toe, and it worked!  Then she tapped on the wiper blade and IT worked!  Then she asked the angels to help her again to tighten up the steering column and fix it to make it safe to drive, and THAT WORKED!  She was tickled pink and drove right back into the emission station garage for them to re-inspect the car.  The same guys checked it out again and looked at my client in disbelief, saying, Everything works!  How the hell did you do that?  You didn't even leave the parking lot!  She got her tags without any more wasted time or money!  THAT little miracle affected all the guys in that station, me, my client, and all the family and friends she told about it today!  Wow!  Thank you angels!  Bless your hearts!  Utahna Tassie, LMT, EFT-ADV Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • EFT after a horrible nightmare

Hi Everyone, Wouldn't it be nice if nightmares could just be "tapped away" in minutes? Such is usually the case with EFT and Karin Tarte gives us an impressive example of this. She applies EFT to her daughter and says, "Gary, within 3 minutes she was sleeping soundly - and slept peacefully throughout the rest of the night. The entire EFT process took about 6 minutes." Hugs, Gary By Karin Tarte Hi Gary, Thank you for this incredible process!  The defining moment for me in deciding to become an EFT Practitioner was when my 15 year old daughter awoke one night and told me she had had "another one of those horrible nightmares." She hadn't had one for quite some time, but this time, instead of just holding her and talking about how we could 'rewrite' the dream to make it more empowering for her and less scary, I tried EFT. I tapped on her and just asked her to repeat whatever I said.  She rated the dream at an intensity level of 10 out of 10 and we began with, Even though I just had this terrible nightmare… I then tapped on each point with, this awful nightmare ... it really scared me ... I don't even want to think about it, it was so bad.  I said whatever intuitively came to me and asked her to validate if they were true statements.  She agreed. After one round, I asked her to rate the emotional intensity again.  She gave it an 8 out of 10.  We proceeded with another round:  Even though I'm an '8' and have a ways to go…  She went to a 5 out of 10 and one more round reduced it to a 3 out of 10.  At that point she pushed my hand away and said, "Mom, stop thumping on my head ... I want to go to sleep!" Gary, within 3 minutes she was sleeping soundly - and slept peacefully throughout the rest of the night.  The entire EFT process took about 6 minutes. The next day I asked her if the EFT really worked or perhaps her dream wasn't really that bad.  She looked at me very seriously and said, "No, Mom, it was a really bad dream ... and what you did really worked!"  She agreed to get up and speak at one of my workshops for kids suffering with nightmares. Thank you again, Gary.  I've spent many years working with psychotherapy, and NOTHING has helped to 'get the job done' like EFT!  It takes the pain and suffering out of troubling memories and helps with self-image problems, as long as the root cause has been identified accurately. • An answer as to why some clients do not tap even when they know EFT will help them?

Alert : This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods. Hi Everyone, Rod Sherwin from Australia puzzled over why some clients (including those with serious diseases) don't continue to tap even when they have already experienced quality results with EFT. He studied some of the human behavior concepts put forward by Anthony Robbins and found a useful model for understanding this problem. He then gives us some helpful tapping approaches. Hugs, Gary By Rod Sherwin In previous EFT newsletter articles, the question has been raised as to why patients who receive relief from EFT, especially for chronic diseases, stop using EFT after a period of time. You would think that if someone has a tool that brings relief, they would continue to use it. But instead some people discontinue its use after a short time. This article presents a possible explanation and a way of treating this using the conceptual framework of the six human needs created by Anthony Robbins. The six human needs identified by Robbins are: Need #1 Certainty/Comfort This is the ability to produce, eliminate, or avoid stress; or create, increase, or intensify pleasure. It's also about security and survival. To know what's going to happen. Need #2 Uncertainty/Variety The need to experience diversity, excitement, differences, challenge. Notice how this is the opposite of Need #1 and contributes to our sometimes paradoxical behaviour e.g. People with too much certainty and no variety in their relationships may look outside the relationship for it. Need #3 Significance This is the need to experience a sense of being needed, feeling important, sense of meaning, sense of purpose, uniqueness, etc. Need #4 Connection/Love The feeling of bonding, oneness with something, sharing, intimacy, feeling a part of something, having a sense of meaning. Again this need seems to be a paradox to Need #3. The following two needs are pursued when the first 4 are being met at some level. These needs are: Need #5 Growth The need to improve our lives, become more of who we are, to learn something new, to build something. Need #6 Contribution To make a difference beyond ourselves; to leave a legacy, to help others. We all meet these needs by using different vehicles. Some of these vehicles are empowering such as meeting our needs for significance and love and connection by helping others. Other vehicles are disempowering such as drugs and alcohol. Now think about a serious disease in terms of meeting these 6 Human Needs. With a long-term serious disease the person is certain of what they can and can't do. They are certain of how people will treat them. They are certain of how most of each day will continue. They are certain of the progress of the disease because an authority figure, a doctor/specialist, told them what would happen. Serious diseases, especially ones with long hard to understand names, meet the need for significance. People get treated special if they have a significant problem. The amount of specialists and doctors they have seen who haven't been able to fix the problem makes it even more significant. They can tell everyone that they have this significant disease and get a feeling of importance from this. They also get variety by visiting the different specialist and doctors for yet another opinion or treatment. Then there is love and connection. Basically, with a serious disease, they get connection or the poor substitute for it, that of pity from people. They will always be able to connect with others who have this disease in support groups. Anthony Robbins defines something as an addiction if it meets 3 or more of the 6 Human Needs. As outlined above a serious disease may do this. Because the serious disease is the only vehicle the patient currently has for getting their needs met they will not persist with any form of treatment which would remove or reduce the disease. So how can we use EFT to handle these aspects? After handling any emotional source for the disease, be it stress, a relationship, grief etc. we can look at each of the 6 Human Needs. For the need for certainty, the setup phrase might be: Even though the Doctors are certain there is no cure for this disease, I choose to be whole, healthy and healed. Even though I'm certain my condition will only worsen, I choose to be open to my health improving somehow. Even though I am certain that I'll always have this condition, I deeply love and accept myself. You might also ask questions such as "What about this disease are you sure of?" and then clear these responses. For the need for significance, this would have to be explored with rapport and in some cases maybe some humor mixed in: Even though I like the way I get special attention because of this disease, I deeply love and accept that I'm special even without this disease. Even though none of the doctors I've seen can figure out what is wrong with me, I choose to be whole, healthy and healed. Even though I've stumped the whole of Western Medicine with this condition, I deeply love and accept myself. You might also ask questions such as: "What about this disease makes you feel important?" And, for love and connection, again this would have to be approached with rapport and caring. Setup phrases such as: Even though my family might not take care of me if I was fit and strong, I deeply love and accept myself. Even though I'd miss going to the support group each week, I love and accept that I can make even more friends. Even though nobody would care for me if I didn't have this disease, I deeply love and accept myself. After handling these aspects, there may be some lingering guilt for being a burden on others so watch out for this and include phrases such as: Even though I've been a burden on my family for all these years, I am deeply grateful for their love, I completely forgive myself and I choose to get on with my life. I have not yet used these ideas in treatment of actual clients so I present this as a theoretical model and would appreciate feedback and comments from your own experiences along these lines. • Emphatic EFT dramatically shifts many things--use this on stubborn issues

Hi Everyone, Study this mega-important article by Rex Jantze. By yelling and dramatically emphasizing his EFT session for low back pain, he generated a long list of impressive "side benefits." Hugs, Gary By Rex Jantze Dear Gary, I had my first, real, amazing breakthrough last night with EFT when I used a not-so-subtle technique.  I could honestly call it an OMW (one-minute wonder).  I have had chronic low back and hip pain for the last year, unsure of where and when it began.  It manifested itself during a summer tour of a theatre mask troupe I was performing in, which forced me to resign the following fall. Last night, while perusing the recent EFT newsletter, I went back into the EFT website to look up more articles on pain issues.  I remember having seen articles where people had success by putting more emphasis on the setup statements, speaking it loudly or shouting it, putting more emotion into it than they could honestly feel during the session.   I have learned that memory and learning is more successful if the person puts emotional energy into what he or she is learning or reading.  This is why traumatic memory is the most persistent and untenable of memories, creating powerful filters by which we receive and transmit all other events and situations in our lives. My friends and family regard me as a generally calm, relaxed, humorous person.  Almost non-emotional.  (Not that things or events don’t move me, I just don’t get as worked up about them.) As an actor, though, I know how to get my blood boiling convincingly without being actually angry; I can weep without being actually sad.  I can get the chemicals and molecules of emotion flowing in my brain and body and actually feel it - the tension, the passion, the tragedy or humor - though I know I am just faking it. I say this now more in retrospect (I didn’t really pre-plan this session) because that is what I did with EFT last night - I completely exaggerated my frustration and anger and sadness associated with the pain in my back (especially the frustration), not really knowing if it would work.  Without waking the house, I shouted my frustration in my head, I tensed my body and made it feel almost psychopathically angry and upset about my pain issue, violently stabbing my karate chop point as hard and fast as I could for my setup phrases, then continuing the exaggerated feelings and hard tapping (if you tense enough and throw enough emotion into it, you won’t really hurt yourself) as I blustered and pissed and pleaded my way through the reminder phrases, struggling with my faux deep frustration how it just won’t go away and I really want it to and my life is ruined if it won’t cease, etc. Now, a round would consist of one set of setups and two to three sets of tapping, including the fingers and eye movements.  I swear that in four rounds of this I had a pain of 8 out of 10 reduced to a level of intensity of 2 out of 10.  And before this I could barely budge the pain with my usual EFT program, thinking and believing I had some deeper core issue I couldn’t find therefore wasn’t addressing.  Also, I utilized two other tips I read in the newsletter; using “somehow” and trying multiple postures/positions (sitting, standing, etc.) Interestingly, that set of EFT rounds manifested at least two other remarkable results for me.  I had an amazing amount of energy this morning, more than I can ever remember having after sleeping.  Probably because, again for the first time, I did not toss and turn as I usually do, but relaxed last night into deep sleep.  I had two vivid, colorful dreams of doing remarkable or impossible things including telekinetically moving fresh-made popcorn from the kitchen to a bowl in my room without anyone noticing, and floating an inch above the ground so that I could push myself from place to place without moving my legs.  Also, my usual habit of sleeping in (if I don’t use an alarm), another problem I’ve been trying to break, seems to have corrected itself naturally.  I woke naturally and full of energy and with a relaxed mind at 7 am, completely not my usual hardwired habit of sleeping until 10 or later.   Another more subtle change is that as I write this letter the words are just flowing out of me, quite the opposite of my usual writing block of starting a letter and then quitting not long after because I don’t know what or how to say what I want.  And one more - the lesser yet sharp pains between my shoulder blades have also, for now, released and disappeared - at least for this morning. Now, I have been also loosely studying NLP and other modalities on my own for a short time.  It is understood that there are three primary modes or senses that people operate from (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) in the course of a day, usually with one dominating the rest.  In my understanding, it is a learned and hardwired modality that most events are initially filtered through.   A possible explanation for this kind of efficiency with EFT is that people who are auditory (which I am) and visual may need to focus or push (exaggerate) their emotions a little harder into the issues and get those emotional molecules and chemicals the brain makes flowing through the body.  People who are kinesthetics and children, who already possess a strong attachment to their emotions, probably have more immediate success at EFT - they may possibly get faster results than the rest of us on average. My back is still a 1 or 2 this morning, and my energy is still amazingly high as I write this.  I will tell more soon as I continue experimenting with EFT and exaggerating my emotions as I tap.  I will attempt to define, refine, and elaborate on my procedure in detail in another letter.  I intend to get my pain to a zero by the end of today.  My new motto for EFT: If it just can’t wait ... If it just won’t break ... EXAGGERATE!! Thank you, Gary! Rex Jantze ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow-Up #1, Day 2 I have been noticing even more subtle effects from that short session than I could have dreamed. Several things I've wanted to change and have worked on previously all seem to be manifesting. My writing block has gone away.  My bad food and eating habits changed dramatically, for the better, another set of issues I have desired to change.  All the emotional energy I used to put into food and meals needing to eat - all just vanished or shifted. (I will elaborate on this later in another article.  Health and Weight-Loss is an area that inspires me.) I don't exactly remember what I said in that session, but I apparently touched several nerves and pushed some major walls out of my way.  I am still high on energy, though my back still feels about a 2, but that's still way better than what it was doing.  By the way, I did kind of bruise myself a little from that session, just a little sensitive in those tapping areas today.  I'm not black and blue, but I am going to wait a few more days before I attempt such a violent tapping session again. (The karate chop is the only point not bruised by my EFT tantrum.)  I will develop this method further, I just need a name - like The EFT Super Plunger (breaks through ALL the s#!t!) or EFT Home Wrecker (busting out ALL the walls!) or The EFT Bully (a better way to beat yourself up! Ouch!! Ahhhh...). I didn’t really go looking for a core issue, but I considered and visualized possibilities (possible events or experiences that occurred that could have been blamed on the problem) and I brought them all up in the set-up, and I did use statements like "I don’t know what it is causing this, but my subconscious probably does, and I REALLY need to get over this NOW!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow-Up #2, Day 4 I have done nothing else other than that short session 4 days ago.  My back remains about a 1-2, though I am now able to exercise and not hurt myself further and strengthen those areas that are weak.  As a residual effect, my relationship with food, has entirely changed; it seems I am connected with and collaborating with my body on a new level.  My poor eating habits (food choices, eating too much at one time, eating too fast, eating when I’m not hungry) have all shifted or collapsed.  I kid not!  I am trying to lose about 10 pounds, this has been a remarkable start to see that happen.  And I wasn’t even working on that issue at that time, though it has been an emotional issue I’ve been trying to deal with. My sleeping pattern has changed, and I sleep more deeply and comfortably without tossing and turning so much - another issue I wasn’t even focused on during the session.  It just got better - more natural on its own.  There have been several other subtle or profound positive residual effects on other problems I have been trying to change.  I am also calmer overall.  I will experiment with this again in a few days, when my skin desensitizes and heals a little more from that first crazy session. Another possible explanation is that there may be a subtle tail-ender in the feeling that we’ve come to accept and submit to the issue as being a part of us, as though it were actually OK and good for us.  Or that we accept the reduction of the problem and need not go any further, since it’s better than what it was - “That’s good enough for now, I can accept that.  Probably won’t get any better.”   A possible thing to try is to make an absolute resolution in the setup and reminder statements, such as “ Even though this problem refuses to budge any further, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and this problem is no longer an option.  This problem is no longer welcome here. It is to pack its bags and leave immediately.  This problem ends here, now, today.  End of issue .” I am going to try that in my next session.   Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. • EFT methods for "Smokers Lung" that apply to most chronic conditions

Suzanne Zacharia, a therapist from the UK, gives many successful methods she used for helping her handle her "Smokers Lung." Please note how she addresses both past and future issues. There are many creative and insightful details in this article and the perceptive EFT'er can easily draw parallels that would help with most chronic conditions. By Suzanne Zacharia Like any other dedicated EFT practitioner, I have been following my Personal Peace Procedure till almost "everything" seemed to have been collapsed. Then one day, I decided to tackle "the big one", my permanent smoker's lung which was getting worse due to exposure to environmental hazards and lack of finances (I made a very big business mistake last year). This was last February, 4 months ago. In February, all aspects affecting my lung condition were unhealthy. My business was doing very well but I was paying back crippling debts. My partner was expecting and getting more out of me than a healthy-bodied person could give, let alone someone with smoker's lung. My daughters did not understand my situation, and there were resentments between my partner and children. My doctor, whom I had hardly seen the year before, was largely uncooperative and unhelpful. My lungs were very bad. Because of my lung condition, I am a very keen smoking-cessation practitioner, and through my clients, I got to know more about what other people with this affliction go through. So I set up a weblog where I recorded most of my self-treatments live, typing with one hand and tapping with the other. The idea was that anyone with a similar condition, their families, careers and health professionals can benefit. I went through many things; releasing from incidents around the time I first got this ailment, releasing current negative emotions, and tapping directly and increasingly expertly on the source (bronchial damage in the left lung). I even recently went through doubting the process, and then believing it again. Many cognitive shifts appeared through EFT, even as to reasons why my left lung was so bad recently. I now go for a jog every morning except for Thursday, my early clinic day. I am doing all I can to keep as healthy as possible. My business is doing better as I have cut my overheads, renegotiated with creditors, borrowed some money from a relative to help repay some of the old debt, and negotiated with two of my students to do some work for me. My relationship with my doctor is on a more equal footing, and I can negotiate with him calmly. All of this is due to tapping on each situation. My whole family has been tapping, and EFT has brought us closer together. I now have my children's and partner's support. I have included below samples of my treatments, dealing with various aspects. Healing the past What follows are two treatments that have helped me deal normally and rationally with my doctor, as well as release a great deal of negative emotions which were contributing directly or indirectly to my physical condition. I have been through a great deal of trauma from the medics, especially around the time I first fell ill just under two decades ago, and a big part of the treatment was around these issues. There was a point whereby I realised that part of the remaining problem for me was that I acted in what I call "victim mode". This is usually present in anyone who has been regularly and systematically victimised, e.g. through child abuse or bullying at school or work. For this, I usually combine the treatment with standing upright, head up high, to physically bring the person out of "victim mode" (this additionally helps them not get picked on). Then I get them to imagine their abusers in front of them, first collectively and then one by one, and tap using the reminder phrase, "I am NOT your victim" . Setup: "Even though I'm a medical victim, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Even though I'm a victim, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Even though doctors abuse me, because I'm a victim, I deeply love and absolutely accept and adore myself." Reminder: "I'm NOT your victim" Shoulders squared, head up high, sitting proud, tapping: "I'm NOT your victim" Standing up now, carrying on as above. "I'm NOT your victim" At the beginning, the statement "I'm a medical victim" would have registered an 8 on the VOC (Validity of Cognition) scale; at the end it was 0. When I first got this condition, the only treatment that was effective was physiotherapy, a kind of postural drainage, but I was subsequently denied this treatment amongst other traumatic circumstances. When I have an infection, I have to lie on one side to sleep, so that the mucus can drain out of my damaged lung into the healthy one, to be coughed up in the morning, as my left lung is challenged regarding coughing; and I am all too aware that blocking up my airways for too long will lead to emphysema, something I am happy to say a recent MRI scan shows I have escaped. Earlier this year, I was exposed to environmental hazards, after which I caught one lung infection after another. The circumstances necessitated a visit to my doctor, when the subject of postural drainage was brought up and the physiotherapy denial memory came up a good 10+ on the 0-10 intensity scale. Setup: "Even though they refused me the only treatment that worked, i deeply and completely love and accept myself" Then I just kept tapping on all the points till I finished: "Refused me this treatment, postural drainage, not taken seriously, deemed too young to have this kind of lung damage and ignored, didn't fit into their belief system so they abused me as they couldn't cope, they were weak, they couldn't cope with facts outside their box, outside their comfort zone, silly people, the other people they must have abused too, it just was, can't change it now, i accept it happened, it just was, they are weak, they can't help being incompetent, they can't help being ignorant, being caring and thinking intelligently is outside their skillsets, they haven't been born with it or maybe it was taken out of them, it doesn't justify their actions but I choose to let go of this heavy load, I choose to let go of this fear and hate, I give healing to that part of my left lung that can't expel mucus, love and healing, in my long and healthy life there is no time for grudges, I choose to live my life, really live and enjoy it, I have a good future ahead of me, I am calm and peaceful, every moment is a beautiful bonus, even if I have to lie down kind of on my shoulder all night and wake up with a stiff neck and shoulder, I fix it and carry on to enjoy another beautiful day, it's a small price to pay and I am happy doing it when necessary, I am contented and calm, I enjoy life." Intensity 0. Healing the physical in the now The next two treatments were more specific to the physical symptoms. When I caught yet another infection during this period, I would wake up in the night totally congested in my left lung, and would typically tap something like this: Setup: "Even though I have this congestion in my left lung, I deeply and completely accept my left lung, I can't help it, I'm kind of attached to it. Even though I have this congestion in my left lung, I deeply and completely love and accept all of me, including my left lung. Even though I have this congestion in my left lung, I ask my body to accept my left lung, I ask my body to allow my left lung to cool and for the swelling to reduce down to normal, even though I don't really remember what normal is but this it is how my right lung feels most of the time. Even though I have this swelling and overproduction of mucus in my left lung, I ask my body to do something more useful and be kind to my left lung" Reminder: "Left lung congestion, left lung pain, left lung irritation, left lung congestion" Setup: "Even though it's a struggle to get air into my left lung, I deeply and completely love and accept the whole of my respiratory system, including my left lung. Even though I have this challenge getting air into my left lung, I deeply love and accept myself, Even though I have difficulty getting air into my left lung, I choose to open up my left lung and let the air in" Reminder: "more air in my left lung" The leaking of hazardous gases into our home over a period of weeks may have made me more worried and hence may have triggered off extra inflammation, so one night I treated it as follows: Setup and reminder, rubbing the Sore Spot three times and then tapping on all the points: "Even though it's not safe to breathe into my left lung, with all the pollution and stuff out there, I'm asking my body to safely heal. Even though it's not safe to, I ask my body to safely heal, I ask my body to safely heal"... There was no need to take an intensity reading on these occasions, as either I could breathe with my left lung or not. When I could feel the air going in and out of my left lung without too much of a struggle, I would stop and go back to bed. Healing the future The next two treatments are to keep me on my physical rehabilitation program. Before going running, I am tapping the Basic Recipe with additional tapping points for "this pain in my left lung" , "this damaged bronchus or bronchiole" (it is not certain which it is, so I either alternate "bronchiole" with "bronchus" or say the above reminder), "these swollen bronchi on the bottom left", "these swollen bronchioles on the bottom left", "this obstruction in the bottom left", "this remaining obstruction there" (when I say "there", I visualise it as if on a 3-D map in my mind), and chase the pain with "this remaining obstruction " . Plus just saying or tapping into all the points the affirmation of "I'm a good runner, I am" . The reason why I chose this affirmation is that it reminds me of a nice TV personality that says something similar. She has a very wholesome attitude and seems to be a genuinely nice person. This to me reinforces that running is good. Life often involves a safe balance of good and bad. Many people run locally and live a long and healthy life. So as I run (walk, jog, walk, jog) on the polluted London streets, when I encounter particularly dirty exhaust fumes, I am aware that I am doing myself more good than harm by running in this area. The running in this pollution is only temporary until finances improve according to plan and I rejoin my gym. So I just say in my mind the following affirmations, usually rubbing the finger points discreetly as I run: "I ask my body to safely process these pollutants" and "I choose to safely breathe when I meet these pollutants". I still have some way to go before I can safely say I am healthy again, and I do not think that the part of my left lung which is damaged can be repaired 100%, but I think I will eventually be able to breathe easily most of the time.
