  • An MD successfully uses EFT on a Hiatal Hernia and Candidiasis

Hi Everyone, This Hiatal Hernia problem was a personal issue for Dr. Vergini and so he self applied EFT with noticeable results (no drugs or other medical applications involved). Since then, with only minor applications of EFT, he has remained symptom free. The second result was a clearing of Candidiasis--a typically stubborn ailment to treat by conventional means. His 29 year old patient, after 2 days of periodic tapping for this problem, experienced a cessation of the symptoms. In Dr. Vergini's words... "Now from her reports and from what I can see, she can be considered clinically free of candida." Hugs, Gary By Raul Vergini, MD First Post: HIATAL HERNIA Hi, I am just a newbie (I'm studying right now Gary's manual and videos), but I wanted to try EFT on myself. I am pretty sure I have a bit of hiatal hernia (about 40-50% of people over 40 have it), because I have, after eating, some gastric reflux symptoms if I take some classic "hernia" positions as if I bend myself forward toward the floor (as for binding my shoelaces), or if I lie down on my back, especially if I eat a bit more than usual. Last week I was treated also by my osteopath for this, but without results. Then, two days ago, I made two rounds of The Basic Recipe, with the setup..... "Even though I have this annoying gastric reflux, ..." and it worked! I noticed a definite improvement, and now I'm decisively less prone to feel the reflux. Even if I try to create it, by bending or lying down, it is nearly completely disappeared. I know it is not a complete clearing, and I will work again on it, but I think that it's a great result for a newbie, especially in a very mechanical/physical problem like this. Raul Vergini, MD Italy UPDATE AFTER A MONTH: I did only two more "rounds" of EFT after that first time, and it was one evening a couple of weeks later for a slight return of symptoms, and since then I am still free of all symptoms without any further use of EFT. ____________________ Second Post: CANDIDIASIS Hi, I want to share another nice success I obtained with EFT (after my hiatal hernia that I reported to you a month ago). The patient, a 29 years old girl at 7th month of pregnancy, came to see me complaining of a very annoying candidiasis that was tormenting her for over five months. She had a lot of itching, burning, "cottage cheese" discharges, and a very inflamed irritation extending also on the inner side of the thighs for about 4 inches. Her gynecologist advised her to avoid sugar, to use an antimycotic soap (with econazol) and to apply a clotrimazol cream locally. She used the cream only externally on the skin and vulva, but not intra-vaginally. Before she had tried homeopathic treatments, and allopathic "washings" and "vaginal suppositories" for candida, but with no avail. I've seen, in past years, several women that avoided sugar and used this cream, but none of them had any clear improvement in their candidiasis with these measures. We all know how candidiasis can be very hard to eliminate. So I told the girl to try tapping, after muscle testing her. She was reversed (weak) on the statement "I want to heal this candidiasis" and strong on "I want to keep this candidiasis". After treating the PR (sore spot and "even though I want to keep this candidiasis..." to be repeated each day to be sure), I instructed her to tap for the itching, burning, discharges and candidiasis or whatever she felt annoying. The set-up phrases were formulated accordingly. After a couple of days she called me and told me that the itching and burning were almost completely gone. After a week the discharge was also gone. No more redness on the thighs' skin and vulva. Now from her reports and from what I can see, she can be considered clinically free of candida. As it's very improbable that the external cream and the sugar-free diet can be the reason for the improvement, I think that EFT made another great score here. Not bad for a newbie! Best, Raul Vergini, MD Italy P.S. By the way, she was also able to easily control, with EFT, the stomach burnings that she had every evening after dinner, especially when lying down. • EFT enhances many things

Hi Everyone, We have many stories of EFT enhancing the use of hypnosis, medicine and many other healing techniques. In this case by Sharon Peterson (from Brunei), EFT resulted in a spontaneous improvement in her running while using yet another method. This is yet another reason to "Try EFT on Everything." Hugs, Gary By Sharon Peterson Hi Gary Greetings from Brunei! I subscribed to your newsletter a little while ago and I'm a real (newbie) fan.  I wanted to write and tell you of my experience with EFT used in combination with Kelly Howell's binaural beat music. I was out running listening to the music.  The music is designed to activate certain brainwaves that make exercising easier - I am NOT a runner but my husband is encouraging me to take up hashing out here in the jungles of Borneo, and I thought I'd better start doing something ahead of time so I can build my endurance.  Anyway, I was out trying to run.  The typical pattern is that I run and stop after 5 min, walk, run, stop, and walk.  And feel lousy and keep looking at my watch and saying what's the use ... I hate running anyway. Today with the music I ran twice as long and felt good but then had an immediate thought of "something this good has to be bad for you.”  All of a sudden, I felt puffed and dissatisfied.  So I stopped and walked and did EFT (music still playing).  What followed was completely spontaneous - it just flowed out of me and I had an amazing conversation with myself. Karate chop: Even though something that feels this good can't be good for me… Even though I've told myself I hate running and here I am running… Even though I am used to feeling lousy when I run… Eyebrow: Can't be good for m e Side of Eye: Hate running Under Eye: Can't run Under Nose: Yes you can Chin: well I don't want to Collarbone: Well I do Under Arm: No, Don't want to Top of Head: Why not? Eyebrow: I'll look stupid, stupid Side of Eye: Well I want to do this, let's do it together Under Eye: It might be fun Under Nose: Let's try Chin: Ok Collarbone: That's great Under Arm: We can do this together Top of Head: It IS fun! I felt a tremendous surge of energy and well-being in my body, twice of what I had felt before, and didn't run, but DANCED home.  It was fantastic!  I cannot wait to go out and run again, and see what happens next time. • The "Let it be Easy" Technique

Alert : This is one of 3,000 EFT Tapping articles that were written by users like you but before 2010. As such they are outdated and some of the links don't work. Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods. Hi Everyone, Here's a brief idea by AnaMaria Herrera for those times when you may be flustered or frustrated. Hugs, Gary By AnaMaria Herrera I wanted to share one of my favourite 'quickie' techniques using EFT.  I call it the 'Let it be Easy Technique.'  It is particularly great when you find yourself feeling flustered and frustrated.  Some situations that might elicit these feelings are: Being stuck in traffic Figuring out something on the computer Making a phone call and being put on hold for an ungodly amount of time Waiting in line Looking for something you have misplaced. For this technique you don't need to say a formal setup statement but just chose one of the EFT points - or “your point” if you have discovered it.  I like the karate chop or the collarbone point.  For example, if you are working on the computer and find yourself getting frustrated, continually tap on the collarbone point and say either silently or aloud, Let it be easy, Let it be easy .  Take deep breaths and tap continually until you feel the shift of the tension dissipating and being replaced by calm and a centered feeling. The other day I was figuring out a new software program and was getting frustrated.  Luckily on my computer I have a little coloured sticky note that says, " Let it be easy ."  So immediately I was reminded to start tapping.  Sometimes, I will include my name in the statement as well: AnaMaria, Let it be easy. I think two things happen.  First, we are reminded to bring EASE into our tasks.  The task can still be challenging, stimulating or interesting but we are removing the energy of forcing something to happen and replacing it with the energy of ease and flow.  And second, tapping the EFT points while saying this statement gives it the staying power.  It imprints the feeling and experience of ease and relaxation in our mind, body and spirit. Next time you find yourself flustered or frustrated do the 'Let it be easy' technique and find yourself grounded and calm to handle whatever is in front of you. • EFT in Kenya

Nonetheless, they provide an excellent Peek at the Possibilities and show you the wide reach of even our older methods. See TRAINING for our free and near-free advanced methods. Hi Everyone, You will enjoy this touching story by Sylvi MacKay as it brings the simplicity of EFT to yet another culture. Hugs, Gary By Sylvi MacKay Aligula, one of five volunteer professional pastors in his local African Church of the Holy Spirit in the Western Province of Kenya, was working as a chef in the guesthouse where I was staying recently. He could not support his wife, Alice, their six children and two of his deceased sister's children on his work at the church, so he trained as a professional chef. He was paid 150 Kenyan Shillings, ($1.87 USD), six evenings a week to walk several kilometers from his traditional mud house, purchase our groceries at the market and cook our meal. He sometimes had other jobs as a chef and sometimes did hand plowing for pay on weekends. He is a very intelligent, good-humored man of about 38, full of laughter, and was interested in learning a little about EFT as many of his parishioners were troubled in their marriages, many were widowed by AIDS, and many had been victims of the tribal violence in January 2008, following President Kibaki's election in the December 2007 Kenyan elections. I described the Basic Recipe and effects of EFT and offered to demonstrate a simple case for him, such as relieving a headache. At this point he indicated he had a "splitting headache like a vice around his head" at that moment. I asked him to show me exactly where the headache was located and he pointed to the forward, center of his crown and said that throbbing pains were shooting down both temples to his eyes. I asked him, on a scale of zero to ten, how intense it was and when it began. He said it was highly unusual for him to have a headache, it was at a nine out of 10, and he could not remember when it started. I set up on the KC with, Even though I have this pain in the center of my head with pains shooting to my eyes, I love and accept myself deeply and completely. After a round of "this pain," we began a round of venting. When I got to, "I don't know why I have this terrible pain," he suddenly remembered that the vice (headache) clamped down during breakfast that morning when Alice asked for some money to buy seed corn and fertilizer. He told me they owned two small shambas (Kiswahili for fields for growing vegetables). They had planted each shamba two times already in the past weeks at a cost of 8000 KSH ($100 USD) each time. The first crop failed to germinate and a fierce tropical downpour washed out the second. He had no money to give Alice to even begin a third planting and the vice (headache) clamped down. We set up and tapped for the loss of two complete plantings and no money for more seed corn, and the pain and worry both came down to a seven. We set up again on, 'this remaining pain and worry," and eventually came down to a 3 out of 10 on the worry; he was amazed that the headache was completely gone. I now introduced him to the 9-point gamut which we performed and then moved on to, I am strong; I saved my family last year by anticipating the violence, buying two 90 KG sacks of ground corn and making our stored green vegetables last until February 27th when we ate the last ones; I provide well for my family; I have always managed; the Lord will provide; He is my Friend and Savior in time of trouble; I too am a good provider. I told him about testing for results after an EFT treatment and asked him to see if any trace of his issue remained. He declared himself worry and headache free. He could no longer find any trace of worry. An interesting footnote to this session occurred that very evening: When he returned home (with ¼ of the needed corn purchased with the tip I had given him a week early), he found his wife in a rage against his father whom she took care of, swearing she would have nothing to do with the hateful man again - ever. Elisha asked if she would let him try a new thing called EFT he had learned that day. She agreed and within a half-hour or less had forgiven her father-in-law and declared herself to be quite happy to look after the old man-for the rest of his life! • Karen helped her father recover the use of his fingers after a stroke

Hi Everyone, Karen Stock from Canada provides a detailed look at how persistence with EFT can make clear progress on challenging issues. She says, "The pain disappeared and both fingers were fully bending again. He then made a full closed fist for the first time since the stroke..." Note how often her father doesn't recognize these dramatic changes until they are pointed out. This happens with some people because the EFT results are so subtle that clients appear to "forget" they had the previous problem. Please consult physicians on all medical issues. Hugs, Gary By Karen Stock Dear Gary and EFT Friends, My father had a double stroke but recovered very fast. However, his right index and middle finger stayed stiff a year and a half later. His whole hand was cramped and did not work well. After months of conventional therapy his fingers stayed that way. He either found it very difficult to do things with his right hand or could not do things at all. While I was visiting with my parents recently, I decided to see if EFT could do something for these two fingers and his hand. These are the set-up phrases that I used. I tapped full rounds on all points with the same sentence. He followed me along while tapping on himself. Even though my entire hand has been affected by this stroke, I declare that my whole hand is healthy again. Nothing happened. Even though these two right fingers are stiff from the stroke, I declare that they are healthy again. Both fingers showed more movement. Even though my right index finger is stiff, I declare that it is bending again. While tapping with this phrase, all of a sudden both fingers changed in colour, look and movement. It happened so fast that I don't remember which point we were tapping. I caught it out of the sides of my eyes. My father did not notice it at all. We stopped and checked his fingers. They were now bending down all the way into his hand. Before they were whitish in colour and looked a bit crooked. This had changed now to the normal pink flesh colour and both fingers had straightened out to their normal shape. He also had full movement in the first joints of both fingers now. We were both completely astounded. We kept tapping: Even though both of these fingers have been stiff since the stroke, they are now fully mobile. Both fingers did not bend down as much this time. We stopped for the night. The next morning, both fingers remained improved. The pink flesh colour, the mobility in the first joints and the normal shape had not changed. However, both fingers were a bit stiffer and did not bend down all the way into his hand. The following days we kept tapping a few rounds on the stiffness and mobility of both fingers. They would always improve a bit more right when we did the tapping. But the next day they went back to being a bit stiffer again. Then I went away for a few days. While I was away, he discovered and enjoyed all kinds of new found freedoms and possibilities using his right hand with the improved mobility of both fingers again. Six days later, we achieved more success. Even though both of these fingers on my right hand have been stiff since the stroke, they are now more mobile. Both fingers were more mobile and were bending down further. Even though both of these fingers on my right hand have been stiff since the stroke, they are now healthy and fully mobile again. Both fingers were fully bending down into the hand again. My father complained about a pain in the middle joint of his right index finger. Even though I have this pain in my middle joint of the right index finger, the pain goes away again. The pain disappeared and both fingers were fully bending again. He then made a full closed fist for the first time since the stroke and had no recollection that his hand had ever been any different. I had to explain to him how his hand had just been a few seconds ago. He looked at me puzzled and I had to explain it again. Then he regained his memory of how his hand had been since the stroke. He said, "oh, yes, you are right" and he looked totally surprised. Again, he discovered and enjoyed all kinds of new found freedoms and possibilities using his right hand with the improved mobility of both fingers again. I went away for a week. When I came back the pattern had been that every morning both of his fingers were a bit stiffer and with some exercises he could always bend them down to almost all the way into his fist. His small finger on his right hand has had a sinew shortening. The finger has been bent for a long time. A few years ago he tried to get it fixed through surgery. But the surgery made it worse and the small finger was not lying on its side into his right hand. So, we did some tapping on this. Even though my small finger on my right hand is bent over, it can be straight again. After a few rounds of tapping the little right finger moved out of his hand and stood up straight with the bend. My father had no recollection that the small finger was lying into his hand before that. Again after I told him how the finger was before he remembered. We tapped for two more rounds but the finger stayed the same. One week later I tapped with him again on the overall improvement of his right hand. Even though my entire right hand has been affected by the stroke, I declare that it is fully healthy again. Then all of the sudden - in a flash of a second - his entire right hand widened and relaxed. Much more of the cramping was gone. Again he did not notice the improvement but this time recognized it right away when I explained it to him. Then we proceeded on tapping for the improvement of his small right finger again. Even though my right small finger is bent, it is straightening out now. All of a sudden he was able to move his small right finger sideways again out of the socket of his hand. This made all the difference in holding cups again. With all the hand improvements my mother trusted him to dry the dishes once more. Two days later while tapping again on the overall improvement of his right hand it improved in its overall flexibility again. We also discovered a nice additional side effect. The occasional drooling from the right side of his mouth stopped as well. This was one of the next items on the agenda to tap on but there was no need for that anymore. His social confidence went way up without the drooling and being able to hold cups properly. He enjoyed all visits without any additional help for eating and drinking any more. After six months his hand stayed improved. He said it could use some more EFT to work on the finer motor skills. • An important case on aspects--Martin's learning challenge

Hi Everyone, Dr. Patricia Carrington recently wrote about "Martin" and his success with EFT in overcoming a difficulty in learning a technical subject. It was a marvelous story and one that set a clear example for handling learning challenges of all kinds. As you will see below, this positive result held up nicely. However, it was confined to learning through books and other means OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. As fate would have it, Martin subsequently enrolled in an advanced technical class and immediately developed an uncontrollable urge to sleep. The cause for this wasn't apparent until Dr. Carrington masterfully discovered another aspect, namely, Martin's response to his new teacher's phrase, "You're on your own." This, of course, became an ideal candidate for EFT. You will appreciate, I'm sure, Dr. Carrington's handling of this issue. This is an important case because it illustrates so nicely the importance of persistence and skill. EFT, as we all know, often produces superb results even when the tapping is done mechanically without any "art of delivery." However, when mechanical tapping "fails" I think it inappropriate to conclude that "EFT doesn't work." It is more likely that the practitioner needs to be more artful. Dr. Carrington's article illustrates this nicely. Hugs, Gary By Patricia Carrington, PhD Those of you who read my original post on this e-mail list about Martin, the Web designer who overcame a block to learning the essential computer language, JAVA, by using EFT, will be interested to hear what is happening with him now. Even if you didn't read my first post, however, you may well be interested in hearing how we handled the next obstacle that came up for him in his saga of computer training. Martin's original EFT session on this issue consisted of him using his JAVA textbook to work with me on identifying specific learning blocks that prevented him from going forward with a study program in this area. With the help of EFT, Martin not only identified his blocks to learning JAVA, but was able to change his attitude about learning further computer skills in a significant manner. Now, from having formerly been postponing any plans whatsoever to learn needed computer programming skills, Martin has grown to have real enthusiasm and interest about learning these skills. Also, instead of looking upon learning programming skills as somehow " beneath a pure Web designer", he is now fully open to this learning. An example of this is what happened when I recently asked him to bring in his JAVA textbook again to a session, and when he came he was able to open it at virtually any spot and fully and easily understand what was written there. He was also able to check on anything he did not understand. In short, he had made excellent progress with respect to the learning which he outlined for himself. However, he now faced a new challenge. On his own initiative (not at his wife's suggestion, although I am sure she was pleased about this) Martin had recently signed up for an intensive night school course in advanced computer science. The course will teach him the programming language ASP, which Martin expects will advance his career considerably. Because he had been resisting going back to school for such a long time, and for good measure, Martin scheduled an appointment with me to take place immediately after the first class meeting. When he came for this appointment, Martin was of two minds. He found the teacher definitely competent, and the textbook clear and not too difficult to comprehend and he was actually looking forward to mastering this new computer language. However, during the class itself he had suddenly become extremely sleepy- not just a little bit sleepy, but so overwhelmed by fatigue that he could barely hold his head up and it was near impossible for him to concentrate. What had happened? Martin was understandably concerned. True, it had been hot in the room, and also he had not had enough sleep the night before, but there was something about the suddenness of the sleepiness and its intensity that made Martin suspicious. He did not understand this and wanted to look into it. The way we tackled this problem confirms something that many of you may know but that I cannot repeat often enough -- and that is the value of searching for hidden aspects of a problem and tapping on them one by one until the original difficulty finally disappears It also shows the value of being able to meet the client where they are, so to speak, and not push ahead against odds until those odds themselves are first handled with the EFT. Martin didn't have a clue as to what his strange sleepiness in class was all about and could think of no reason for it. In response to my questions, all he could remember about the class was that it seemed to him as though there had been something " vaguely intimidating" about it, but he had no idea what that was. Actually, the feeling of intimidation didn't seem to have much if anything to do with the actual class, which Martin had looked forward to, so to try to get at this "unknown" quantity (an example of Backing Up in EFT, a subject I discussed in my previous post on this list), Martin formulated the following set-up phrase: "Even though there was something vaguely intimidating about the class, I choose to see this class as a very NEW and stimulating experience." The word "new" he had put in at my request because I suspected that some old patterns from Martin's childhood might be replaying themselves here. Could it be that what had happened when he switched schools as a boy when his family moved to a new city -- a traumatic experience for Martin -- was the culprit here?... We were about to find out. Martin commenced his EFT session with an Intensity Rating (on a 0 to 10 scale) of "6" with regard to his feeling of fogginess in the class and his need to escape from that room. After one round of the Choices Trio (for a detailed description of this strategy see Chapter 3 of my Choices Manual) he had come down to a "3" on his Intensity Rating, and commented that while he tapped, he had been thinking of how he really wanted to learn this, and yet at the same time he could feel himself wanting to lean back and simply go to sleep. I asked him to try to remember the class in as much detail as possible and he commented that while he had been pretty excited about it before he went there, at one point the teacher had begun to go much faster because the material was too familiar to some of the students, and that at that point he had felt "kind of lost." We were preparing to tap on that "lost feeling", when something else came to Martin's mind that supplied a clue with respect to the real difficulty underlying his sleepiness reaction. Martin casually mentioned that his sleepiness had begun when he was asked to type the example given in class (each student works with a computer in front of them) and work on it by HIMSELF. Up to that point the teacher had been demonstrating to the class, but at this point he had turned to the class and said, "Now you're on your own." It was then that Martin's sleepiness occurred. Something rang a bell in my own mind when he told me this. When Martin had been forced to switch schools as a boy (when his family had moved to the new city), this event had been extremely difficult for him because in his former school there had been very small classes and there he had received a great deal of attention and encouragement from the nuns who were teaching him. But in the new public school into which he had suddenly been thrust, he found himself in a class of 60 children where there was virtually no possibility of individual attention. From that point on, Martin's attitude toward school was radically changed and his marks, plunged. His reaction now became one of discouragement and dislike of school. Could it be that it was the computer teacher's comment, "Now you're on your own" , which had triggered Martin's adverse reaction of intense sleepiness? As soon as I asked him about this, Martin felt in touch with this concept. Still, however, I wasn't sure we were on the right track until I had tested him by saying to him loudly, "Now you're on your own!" and saw his immediate reaction of high anxiety and a sense of helplessness. Aha! Now we had a clear-cut issue to work on. Martin and I formulated the following set-up phrase: "Even though the teacher said "You're on your own", I choose to see how strikingly different this is from the that public school class." I wanted Martin to make a clear distinction between the past and present, which is why I suggested he include the word "new". One of the most important reasons that a problem may linger from the past and affect the present is that the unconscious mind has no sense of time. To this part of the mind, if it happened before, it is happening NOW. It is therefore extremely helpful when making an EFT Choice to word it in such a way that the difference between the past and the present is clarified. This can free a person from the tyranny of the past, can let bygones be bygones. After one more round of the Choices Trio, tapping on this new phrase, Martin spontaneously commented that it was now clear to him that "You're on your own". had been a trigger phrase for him. So, I decided to test Martin again by saying to him "You're on your own!" -- very forcefully this time. He reported that although his intensity level was now reduced somewhat and was now a "5", he could feel his heart beginning to race when I said that. For the next round, therefore, Martin created a new set-up phrase which went as follows: "Even though my teacher said "You're on your own.", I choose to know that he's always there to help me." He explained that, in fact, his computer teacher was very responsive to the class (which was a small one) and that the structure of the class was for the teacher to circulate among the students, each of whom was working on their own computer, and help them whenever they raised their hand. This was quite different from the public school class of his childhood! Martin did one more round of the Choices Trio using this set-up phrase, and he was down to "1", and this time, when I called out, "You're on your own!" it simply didn't bother Martin anymore. "I'm feeling better about the whole thing" he said, "And now I'm remembering that what perked me up during the class was when my teacher made a couple of mistakes himself -- and HE'S a Ph.D. in computer science!" He was now at the end of his hour, and clearly there was another issue to handle with regard to Martin's ability to be imperfect, but he was already on the way to handling this. He took home a Choices card with his last setup phrase on it and enthusiastically declared that he would be tapping on this issue some more at home. When he returned two weeks later, he told me that at the next meeting of the class he had that "groggy feeling" again, but that this time he tapped in his head, doing mental EFT (an excellent option that works for many, but not all people) and that he then felt fine. "The course is actually making sense to me -- I'm actually enjoying it." he said, and added that he is planning to take a more advanced course in the same subject next semester. What a change!. Since Martin is diligent about doing his EFT homework, I have no doubt that overcoming this latest challenge has represented another turnaround for him, and am certain that it will lead to a new level of competence in his computer training. It will be intriguing to watch! With all best wishes, Pat Carrington Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options. Hi Everyone, This article by Harry Galina, PhD is designed for professionals who are familiar with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Hugs, Gary Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 By Harry Galina, Ph.D. Part 1 For most of my clinical life I have used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  I was trained in this wonderful tool and have helped many clients through the past 20 something years.  Two years ago I discovered EFT and my life and the lives of my clients have improved significantly. In order to retain my cognitive training even while doing EFT I had noticed that on Gary's DVD series he is very often using the principles of cognitive therapy combined with his own unique and powerful ways.  His reframes are cognitive which lead to a change in behavior and emotions.  EFT is a wonderful tool, even though it has not been fully recognized by mainstream psychology, and here I would like to share one aspect of how I use both the principles of Cognitive therapy and EFT together. Dr. Jeffery Young has written a marvelous book in which he details what, in "cognitive" terms, are called Schemas.  I cannot do justice to Dr. Young's formulations in this short space but will give just a taste of how I use it.  Schemas are characteristic ways of looking at things, and shape our attitudes and beliefs.  Our environment and physiology create a structure to use as a filter to view the world. This structure comes from our unique physiology and our unique experiences; therefore everyone will have different schemas and therefore experience and perceive the world in different ways.  Schemas act as filters; and often these filters hamper our development. Because EFT "taps" (pun intended) into both physiology and cognitions at the same time and leads to counter-conditioning and desensitization according to Classical conditioning, it becomes an elegant and efficacious tool for helping ourselves and others. Dr. Young has enumerated, through his excellent research what he calls: Early Maladaptive Schemas.  He has developed a questionnaire that ferrets out these maladaptive belief systems so the client and clinician can make the necessary cognitive changes.  I have had my clients fill out his questionnaire so that we can see what is "written on their walls".   Dr. Young uses a 6 point scale but I prefer to use the 0-10 intensity scale so often used in EFT and other excellent therapies.  As the client and I explore the answers we use EFT to reduce, reframe, and more often than not, remove the unwanted maladaptive schema so the client can move forward in their lives. Let me give you an example: If the client has a mistrust and abuse schema we explore the various reactions to the statements in Dr. Young's questionnaire.  We collapse each belief and move to the next.  Often deeply rooted memories of mild to severe abuse are encountered and we may use the Tearless Trauma Technique or the Movie Technique to easily and consistently reframe and reduce the emotional charge that the memory represents. It is also a useful way of "Sneaking up on the problem" as you go through their answers to the questionnaire.  You can start with the general statement of "Even though I have these issues of mistrust and abuse and I do not want to go through those memories again..."  Even though I am not sure when I'll be ready to..."  Eventually, the schema is laid bare and desensitized and EFT counter-conditioning take place. I hope to give more insight into the intimate connection between cognitive therapy and EFT over the next few weeks and would like to thank Gary and his DVDs for elucidating this wonderful tool for all.  I also owe a debt of gratitude to David Rourke and his marvelous live exposition of EFT that I attended.  Isn't it interesting that any EFT practitioner that I have read, watched, or met has a sense of humor which so ably enables other people?! Z. Harry Galina, Ph.D. Create a nice Day! Part 2 In this continuing set of articles about the use of EFT and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy I would like to talk about relieving anxiety and panic attacks.  I once read that most cases of anxiety or panic are first referred to a General Practitioner who will often give medications for temporary relief but usually does not solve the underlying problem. Alternatively, many sufferers go to the emergency room because they feel that they are having a heart attack or are dying.  Tests are taken, results are usually negative, and the patient is sent back out into the world temporarily (though not completely) relieved. Cognitive therapy (and in particular through the work of Gary Emery) will teach the client to use the acronym of A.W.A.R.E. The letter A stands for Accept the anxiety.  This usually goes counter to what the client believes.  The client usually believes that they have to “fight” the anxiety. However, this simply exacerbates the anxiety because you are continuing to “fire up the nervous system.”   You will also notice that when using Gary’s type of EFT setup phrase, that we actually say the negative first - Even though I have this panic… followed by the acceptance phrase. My contention is that the acceptance in the A.W.A.R.E. Strategy and the acceptance in the Setup phrase accomplish roughly the same effect. One may call it dealing with the “psychological reversal” or on a more basic level that the person will accept themselves with their symptoms. The second letter in the A.W.A.R.E. Strategy stands for “Watch the anxiety”.  In this part of the strategy the person rates their anxiety level on a scale of 0-10 and then is supposed to watch it go up and down in a detached way.  They are to watch this anxiety level go up and down and It can take people many practice sessions before they “get” this and the anxiety begins to go down. Notice how Gary utilizes the 1-10 level of intensity scale and then, usually with one or two rounds of tapping and using key phrases can quickly bring down the anxiety level. Though the A.W.A.R.E. Strategy has been used very effectively with my clients in the past, Gary's reframes and tapping are much quicker at bringing the intensity level down. The other day I had a new client who I’ll call Mary who is in her seventies and somehow made it to my office “even though the walls in the corridors were closing in on her.”  Mary wouldn’t come into my office because she could see from the door that I had a big window and this also scared her.  I asked Mary if I could teach her a “weird” technique that very likely would relax her.  At one point while we were tapping, I said to Mary, who was repeating and mimicking everything I said, “And here I am tapping on my face with this crazy psychologist.”  Well that did it; she broke into laughter, had a big sigh, and relaxed enough to come in.   After that we became a little more conventional continuing with a combination of EFT and Cognitive therapy.  Mary was very pleased with the result, agreed to come again to work on more core issues, and walked out with hope and some self-help techniques of tapping and AWARE.  You will notice on the DVDs that Gary will strategically elicit laughter which will quickly reduce anxiety and help with an instant reframe.  I have often heard that you “can joke with depression, but don't joke with anxiety.”  Well, I beg to differ.  A strategically and carefully placed metaphor or twist can do the client a world of good. The next letter in the A.W.A.R.E strategy is the second A and it stands for “Act with the anxiety.”  That means that you may slow down your movements but keep on doing what you were doing.  As Dr. Emery points out: if you run from the situations your anxiety will go down but the next time you encounter or think about the anxious situation your fear will go up.  Using the tapping routine one can more easily prepare by asking the client to visualize themselves in the situations (or you can sneak up on the problem). The fourth letter of the A.W.A.R.E. strategy are Repeat the steps; Accept, Watch, and Act until the anxiety goes down.  Of course, using EFT we make sure that the anxiety level has gone down to a 0 or 1 on a scale of 0 to 10 and do as many repetitions of the sequence as necessary.  If it fails to go down then we know that we may be dealing with another issue that has cropped up.  We then deal with the new issue.  This is the power of EFT.  While the A.W.A.R.E. Strategy is non-specific, the EFT procedure can go from the general to the specific in short order. And, finally, the last letter stands for Expect a new effect.  In other words, you have gotten through this bout of anxiety, give yourself credit, but since anxiety can come back you now are more prepared.  With EFT, the language patterns that are used imply that we can deal with anxiety because we now have a tool or technique to use any time we need it.  We now have the experience of anxiety reduction and know that it is possible through using the appropriate language and tapping procedure. I usually give my clients both options and allow them to choose which one they want to use or both together.  They can recite the A.W.A.R.E. while tapping.  The best of both worlds. I hope that this has been helpful to the therapist out there.  In my next article in the series I hope to elucidate how I use the technique of refuting cognitive distortions and how EFT can do this. Even though Cognitive therapy can often do the same things as EFT, EFT is usually faster and often more elegant.  Faster and more elegant, what more could we want for our clients. Z. Harry Galina, Ph.D. Part 3 This is the third installment of the continuing series about CBT and EFT.  In this article I will show how the identification and breakdown of cognitive distortions within cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be made quicker and deeper.  The cognitive distortions are thoughts or beliefs that have a distortion in them.  Some of the more common ones are: dichotomous thinking, magnification, should statements, over generalization, and others. For those of you familiar with NLP you can recognize them as such things as universal quantifiers, modal operators of necessity, and others.  Once the distortions are discovered we then use cognitive restructuring to replace them with better operators. The first step is identification and this may be the hardest step.  That is because they often feel logical to the person engaging in them.  The problem is that they are not rational statements.  They come about almost automatically.  They are automatic habits of thinking that lead, more often than not, into negative emotional responding.  Cognitive distortions are (our) interpretations of reality, they are not reality. As a therapist, when you hear someone engaging in a cognitive distortion you need to stop the person and get more info from them.  We point out the distortions and ask them to refute them by finding the rational response.  Once we have discovered the distortion in the person’s thought (in their sentence) the person then rates them and some systems use a 0-100 scale. I use the O-10 scale and then do one or two rounds of EFT on the distortion and its derivatives. This has two excellent results.  One, it reduces the distortion much faster, and two, the resistance to let go of the distortion (because it has been a part of them for so long) breaks down so much easier since we are getting strait to the inner emotion that is maintaining the distortion. Most people, at first do not believe that they are distorting; they disavow it and may even be offended that you have pointed it out.  Instead of having to assign the refutation of the distortions as a homework task, they can walk out of the office with distortions already reduced.  They can then practice the EFT at home in conjunction with the sheet I have given them on EFT and distortions.  Once people have practiced refuting their cognitive distortions they tend to get better and better at refuting them and preventing them.  Because of the practice it becomes an embedded skill.  By combining EFT into the process we save time and the gains tend to be more "permanent". Here is a simple example: A recent client was having difficulty with some coworkers.  She felt that they were talking behind her back and saying "bad" things about her.  When I pointed out that there may be a possibility that she is jumping to conclusions, mind reading, and probably magnifying, she claimed that she heard whispering which "proved" that she was right. We decided to go through each possibility using EFT.   Even though I may be jumping to conclusions…  With each successive round we were able to delve deeper into the distortion and it also lead to her realization that her father had "written on her walls" by modeling without checking the facts, throughout her childhood.  After going through each of the possible distortions in the situation she felt that she had a better understanding of what was going on. Even more important, she was able to ask her colleagues about her fears and they helped her refute them and give her new meaning to interpret the situation.  It is my contention that the EFT process helped put the situation in perspective and induced the courage for her assertive action.  Of course, at the next session the writing on the wall from modeling her father's behavior was reframed using EFT. I should also point out that I have never tapped on any of my clients due to provincial regulations for psychologists.  Once I explain the procedure and they accept to try it, I teach them the techniques and then have them repeat what I do.  All clients have accepted it as we intertwine both CBT and EFT and when needed, NLP techniques. More often than not, they ask for more EFT instruction on the second visit. I also want to thank those who have emailed me and provided support for my exposition.  We need to find a way to get this into mainstream psychology and the CBT/EFT route is one way. Z. • After using EFT, Paul's 84 year old mum recovered very quickly from a surgical operation

Hi Everyone, We have growing evidence that applying EFT before surgeries can substantially reduce the pain and after effects of going under the knife. Paul Bergman from the UK gives us a shining example of this and says, "Ten days after the operation (and a full week and a half earlier than expected) my mum was allowed home. There was no sign of any of the bruises either to her face or arm and all the nursing staff were amazed at how quickly she had recovered. They even mentioned that they were surprised at how little pain medication she had needed during her stay." Please consult physicians on all medical issues. Hugs, Gary By Paul Bergman Hi, I thought I would share this story with you. Earlier this year my mum was diagnosed with a cancerous growth on her lip and needed surgery to remove it. This would involve the lump and some surrounding tissue being removed, then a skin graft and vein taken from her right arm to reconstruct the lower lip and then another skin graft from her abdomen to cover the arm. In all it was going to be a 10 hour operation. A huge operation for anyone to endure, let alone a 84-year old woman. Also, and by way of background, my mum is one of those people that bruises easily and takes ages to heal if she cuts herself. The consultant told us that she would be in the hospital for around three weeks and to expect her to be in intensive care for about four days following the operation. A week to ten days prior to the date of the operation my mum said that she was feeling anxious and worried about the operation - her level of intensity was 10+ on a scale of 0 to 10. So we did a round of tapping: Even though I am worried about this operation... We kept working on this until she was down to a 0 and then moved on to her other concern of: Even though I am worried about leaving Len alone... (Len is my Dad who would be staying with me during her hospitalisation) So the Monday morning of the operation arrived and everything went well and 10 hours later it was all over and she was taken to Intensive care as expected. The next day at around 2:30 in the afternoon I received a call from the hospital to say that she was being moved back to a general ward as she had recovered so well. This surprised even the consultant who said that people half her age usually need at least 48 hours to recover after such an operation. The next day we paid a visit to the hospital and my mum was sitting up in the chair next to her bed watching TV. She even complained to us that the woman in the bed opposite (who was aged about 30 and had a similar operation) had not got up all day! Apart from the stitches on the skin graft, her cheek and chin were bruised from the operation and her arm was also bruised where they had put in a needle for a drip. Ten days after the operation (and a full week and a half earlier than expected) my mum was allowed home. There was no sign of any of the bruises either to her face or arm and all the nursing staff were amazed at how quickly she had recovered. They even mentioned that they were surprised at how little pain medication she had needed during her stay. My mum is back at home now and doing well and is healing nicely thanks to EFT. Paul Bergman GC COMMENT:  This is a good example of how EFT often works well for immediate issues.  If Paul's Mum had not responded well to this approach, deeper uses of EFT would likely have helped.  See The Gold Standard (Official) EFT Tapping Tutorial for details. • Using EFT for Poison Ivy

This "one minute wonder" by an EFT Newbie should help multitudes of people with their poison ivy miseries. The same process should work for poison oak as well. By C. Battles Gary, Just an experience from a practicing amateur: I developed an allergy to poison ivy about 12 years ago, and it makes my summers miserable because I seem to find it everywhere. It occurred to me about a month ago to try EFT on this, and I did a "one-minute wonder"--I don't even think I tapped more than two rounds of the basic recipe. Days later I decided I was brave enough to test it to see if it had worked, and I touched some poison ivy. Nothing happened, I never broke out. I tried it again later, being a little more aggressive with my exposure to the leaf. Still no reaction. A few days ago I pulled up a plant with my bare hands and rubbed it up and down my arm. No reaction. I think this is quite amazing. I have also used it on other things and other people with some successes, and some failures. C. • The "Gratitude for My Mistakes" method

Hi Everyone,Bonnie Weisberg gives us the details of her method for getting to core issues. Because of its potential power she gives some cautionary words and then says, " This process brings what is unconscious or subconscious into the conscious, where you can deal with it by applying EFT. " Hugs, Gary By Bonnie Weisberg Thanking Myself for Mistakes? Sound Simple? Think Again! A word of caution: This treatment is sure to bring up resistance. This resistance may show up as anger, even outrage, at the mere thought that thanking yourself for things like having an affair, injuring your child, or causing a fatal car crash (all very real factors with my previous clients). In fact, thanking yourself for these mistakes may seem ludicrous. And I would like to add that this treatment plan is not a justification for misguided behaviors. It is simply a way for you to release subconscious, stagnant emotions that are keeping you at a lower emotional vibration. This process brings what is unconscious or subconscious into the conscious, where you can deal with it by applying EFT. For Practitioners: Please use good judgment when applying this practice. In fact, Gratitude for My Mistakes is meant for clients that have met with you for a minimum of five to six sessions and have been using EFT successfully on their issues. For example, using this treatment for clients in Post Traumatic Stress is unethical. Ideally, this treatment is used for clientele whom have already done considerable personal work, but still experience pervasive, underlying depression or vague feelings of anxiety. Before beginning this process, prepare your space by minimizing distractions. Shut off your phone, put a “do not disturb” sign on your door, and set aside time for this treatment. I started off with something small to test out this gratitude treatment plan. I tapped my karate chop point while stating: Even though I missed my turn and took a detour that made me late, I choose to thank myself for that mistake. Even though I wasn’t paying attention and made myself late for that important meeting, I choose to thank myself for that mistake. Even though I missed my turn and made myself late again, I choose thank myself for allowing room for mistakes. EB - Uhggg, I missed my turn. SE- I hate when I don’t pay attention. UE - Now I’m going to be late, great! CH - I guess, I can forgive myself for making a mistake. CB- What if that wrong turn saved my life? UA - I can thank myself for making this mistake. TH - Thank you, Self, for allowing room for mistakes.  I then moved to a situation that was extremely difficult. Sixteen years ago, my baby brother, J.J. died of cancer. I was 20 at the time, and as you can imagine, I was completely devastated and traumatized by his passing. In efforts to deal with my grief, I chose to completely distance myself from my parents.  In fact, I was downright horrible to them (or so I felt). There is far too much involved with this 16 year journey to recap here. But for the purpose of this article, I would like to recount my experience using this Gratitude for My Mistakes treatment.  I want to point out that I had done 16 years-worth of self-forgiveness, EMDR, EFT, visual guided imagery, meditation, seminars, and numerous spiritual retreats to overcome this loss. I really didn’t think that there was too much more for me to process with this. But since it was on my list, I decided to give it a shot. I began at the karate chop point: Even though, I was so insensitive to Mom and Dad…. (this is as far as I got. I was suddenly beside myself with guilt and refused to thank myself for my behavior.) I was bawling. I knew I had forgiven myself, but I certainly could not thank myself for not being there for my parents! I tried again. Through my sobs, I managed to voice the following… Even though, I was so insensitive to you, Mom and Dad, and I just can’t thank myself for this, I still love and accept myself. (3X) I then tapped as follows: EB: Sorry Mom…. SE: Sorry Dad… UE: I’m sorry… UN: I wish I could have been there for you… CH: But I couldn’t even be there for myself… CB: I must have needed that time… UA: Maybe this was just meant to be… TH: Maybe I can be open to thanking myself for this… This brought about significant relief. In addition, I realized that, at that time, my parents really needed to reach out to proper therapeutic interventions, and not come to me for emotional support; simply an old pattern that needed redirection. I was then able to tap as follows: KC: Even though, I was so insensitive to you, Mom and Dad, I choose to recognize the value in my retreat. Even though I was so insensitive to Mom and Dad, I choose to thank myself for attempting to set emotional boundaries. Even though I didn’t know any other way, I can now thank myself for this mistake… I then tapped as follows: EB: I could have been more sensitive… SE: I’m learning how to support myself and others… UE: Maybe I can thank myself for my attempts at processing this tragedy… UN: No I can’t… CH: I’m willing to try to thank myself… CB: I must have needed that time… UA: Thank you, Self, for giving me the time and space I needed… TH: Thank you… Upon finishing this round of tapping, my tears were changing from regret to gratitude. I could suddenly recognize all the benefits of refusing to triangulate with my parents and leaving them with each other to work it out. I am happy to report that their marriage is stronger than ever, and, in fact, my mother is within months of graduating with her Masters in counseling! I hadn’t put this together before now! I tapped as follows: EB: I thank myself for following my gut at that time SE: I’m thankful for my parents being able to find their own path… UE: Everything is working out for our highest good… UN: I can love and support others without enabling them… CH: Thank you, self! CB: Thank you, self, for this perceived mistake of being insensitive to Mom and Dad… UA: I thank my soul for walking down this path of choices so I could learn this valuable life lesson. I can now live my life more joyously.  TH: Thank you…Thank you…Thank ME! Using this process of Gratitude for My Mistakes immediately makes room for resolving hidden resistance to creating a bright future. I now use Gratitude for My Mistakes with almost every client I see, with profound results! Usually, after the client has experienced relief from the issues at hand (down to a three or less) I like to progress through several rounds of Gratitude for My Mistakes . Without exception, the client will go into resistance when I mention thanking themselves for past mistakes. I often hear, “I can’t thank myself for that!”  From my personal experience, I know this can bring up more material to work with in session. Gratitude for My Mistakes is a marvelous tool for digging up unconscious shame, guilt, and resentment that may still be present, no matter how much forgiveness work has been done in past sessions. The Gratitude for My Mistakes concept is simple, yet, when applied to my toughest errors, it got tougher than I expected. The deeper I went to thank myself, the more reasons surfaced why I did not deserve any grace, let alone gratitude. This truly is groundbreaking! I can now recognize the value in trial and error. Releasing stagnant emotional memory from my past mistakes paves the way for freedom to ultimately learn from the road I have traveled. This results in being free to create new healthy choices and experiences of love at every turn. (Even a wrong turn.) Bonnie Weisberg, EFT-Adv, Reiki Master, Blah blah blah… (who cares?) Hi Everyone, Steve Levine shows us a simple EFT method for bringing peace to the lives of others. Hugs, Gary By Steve Levine Hi Gary, I was inspired to try an interesting technique in the store near where I work. The people there often come to me to vent their frustrations about how stressed they are with their jobs. While they are sharing with me I nod my head but all the time I am visually tapping all the EFT points starting with the PR spot. I then imagine the EFT points all blinking on and off like a traffic signal. Within a few minutes their frustration seems to diminish and they walk away feeling better. It is interesting to listen for when the shift happens in their thought process. They actually loose the anger and begin to talk about the problem as if it is something they are OK with now. I also see a change in their face. A brighter more peaceful look to the face occurs after surrogate EFT. It is like a face lift for some! I have often used this in stressful meetings where people are venting and the conversations are heated. Surrogate EFT calms the hotheads down and keeps the meeting at an even keel. For heated counseling sessions surrogate EFT has been a real breakthrough when I want to get faster results without having the counselees physically tap.. I have also been able to help people with health issues using surrogate EFT. How many times are we in a public setting and someone nearby is hacking away with a bad cough? Surrogate EFT has worked beautifully in these situations to help the person stop coughing. For those in the health field this is a God send.  I am grateful for the article Ryan Kurczak wrote as it has helped me to explore many uses for this wonderful technique in my EFT practice. • EFT and Time Line Therapy helps 92 year old man live in the now

Hi Everyone, This article assumes a working knowledge of Time Line Therapy (an NLP derived concept). Note how Jorge Carrillo blends it with EFT for impressive results. Hugs, Gary By Jorge Carrillo Article: Gary, I recently received from your mail list a contribution from a practitioner about time line & EFT.  I hope this practical case study will be of help. I’ve been working with a 92 year old man who lives in my hometown.  He is a Russian immigrant who moved to Argentina in his early childhood.  Forty years later, he moved to Los Angeles with his family and spent his life there until 8 months ago when he had to move to Mexico.  He separated from his wife as she had to go into a geriatric nursing home.  He refused to go with her and made the decision to move to Mexico to live close to his daughter.  He lives in his house with a nurse and has regular visits from her. One of his issues was his difficulty adapting to his new lifestyle, away from his wife and not close enough to his daughter.  He also had certain issues about mobility.  He was having a hard time adjusting. We were addressing the issue that he sometimes gets a bit depressed during the week until he meets his daughter.  My intuition popped the question, “Can you make an inner representation of (visualize) your time experience?”  I further explained to him how to get this representation.  He is a very lucid and clever man and connected quite fast to his inner experience. He described having his future in front of him. He located the present at his physical location and he located the past right above him.  He also mentioned that he could feel all the emotions from the past above him as well.  As he said this, I started to apply EFT on that specific experience. Addressing the past in his time line as follows - doing two rounds on each setup statement. Even though I feel my past as a weight on my shoulders… Even though my past compresses my present… Even though I am still carrying my past on my shoulders as a back pack… This backpack full of time and emotions This heavy load of time This useless load on my shoulders He immediately felt alleviated from the experience he described.  He expressed with a very amusing face that the past was gone.  I asked him if he could relocate his past as he did before and he said very vehemently, “I can’t find it!  It doesn’t matter!  I feel like I’ve been living here for 50 years!” I was very surprised at how fast EFT resolved the whole issue and took care of it in a very ecological way.  I did some checking on how he felt in accessing his past as there are a lot of resources there that he may need or use under other circumstances. We ran through some important experiences from the past as well as some emotions like nostalgia or grief.  He reported feeling profoundly released from the emotions and very aware of his past as well. I did some tests on how he felt about his wife and past life in L.A. and he also was very aware of the consequences of his decision and the hope for reconciliation in the near future.  He was very positive and optimistic fully living the present where he is at the moment.  This is a wonderful demonstration of EFT capabilities for both dealing with time in our inner representations and how ecological this tool is for chance and resolution of emotional issues. Thanks a lot Gary for this wonderful path on which we are walking. Jorge Reminder : For upgraded methods, please see our free and near-free TRAINING options.
